Naruto's Apparent Idiocy.

I see this occurring alot, in that people over-do how stupid Naruto acts. Especially in Fanfictions.

I don't get it, honestly I don't. In Canon, Naruto isn't stupid. He's un-educated. And then he decided to keep with the idiot ruse to gain some attention. It didn't help that many at the Academy basically sabotaged him from the get go with kicking him out of class for no reason, or teaching him false information.

Naruto's apparent stupidity was caused by those around him. And in no way shape or form his own fault. I mean, really nobody did jack-shit for him. Iruka didn't even really bother with him much until canon began. The Sandaime, well he was pretty much useless in regards to Naruto, because I'm pretty sure he could have set up a private tutor for Naruto easy enough. Kakashi, he didn't do jack either for Naruto until pretty much Shippuden. So much for his respect for Minato when he couldn't even look out for his ostracized son. Godfather of the year goes to Jiraiya, who didn't even reveal himself to the kid until he was 12.

It's stuff like this that has stunted his growth into an epic ninja that has various Jutsu and skills under his belt.

What I don't understand is, why people who write fanfiction and have Naruto raised by people such as his parents if they actually live. Jiraiya, Kakashi etc. Still try to make him stupid, and over-do it by actually making him retarded.

Why would he be stupid? He wouldn't be neglected, and would actually be trained from a young age by some form of Elite Ninja. And with how big his chakra reserves were, even back then he would have been going on to high level jutsu type of shit.

Honestly, in my own opinion. Naruto could have followed the likes of Itachi and Kakash and become a high ranking Shinobi early on if he just had some proper guidance.

But you addressed one very important point most people do not appreciate. Naruto's growth as a ninja was stunted by the neglect he suffered while growing up due to having Kurama inside him. He never had someone teach him right from wrong and never developed that way. Plus when you add in Kurama's seal affecting his ninjutsu and so on, the nine-tails incident really crippled his development.

Definitely. As a shinobi of Uzumaki blood, and the son of a Kage-level ninja. Naruto would have already inherited massive chakra reserves alone from that legacy. With Kurama in there, his reserves probably towered over an average S-rank shinobi's easily. And expecting an un-educated child with neglect issues to handle that is just stupid.

He definitely learns better by doing rather than learning. But, support from an early childhood could have given him the intelligence to better learn as he does the training physically. It would have made everything so much easier for him.

If he was trained from a young age, and became an S-rank ninja without the power ups, when he got them the boosts they reward him would be much higher.

When someone called him dumb, he had no parents or friends to complement him.That's probably why he called himself a lame ninja when speaking to Minato for the first time.
