Gonna be so original here, but I voted for Naruto. I love protagonists that overcome their hardships and Naruto did it so well.
He never gives up and keeps his promises, always believing there's a way no matter what comes at him, whether it be an opponent, his personal problems, or even reasoning with issues, he always try to solve the issue and that earns some respect.
His abilities and skills are incredible, mastering an A-rank move in a week, mastering Nature energy in little time, expanding the abilities Hokages couldn't do like the Rasen shuriken, and the most important controlling and befriending a Tailed Beast.
Even though he doesn't have THAT many techniques, he can use them so effectively he doesn't need that many techniques which gives him respect.
His most important thing being Naruto himself. Influencing many people and befriending almost everyone he meets. He gained trust from his whole village, the Tailed Beasts and beyond, always holding his friends and others as the most important thing, even standing up to Kages and others to save his friend. He always finds the best in people, like Sasuke and Gaara. Sometimes he can be dumb, heck even a nuisance, but he always follows his heart, trusting what he feels is best for everyone.
These are some of the reasons why I like Naruto the most in the series.
Hinata has been my longest current favorite character. Probably because we share a lot of similar personality factors. She's basically a pacifist for the most part. After that she's gentle, kind, and tries to be nice to everyone. After that, I think she's pretty (well...for a 2-D piece of artwork). Her courage and her progress to become a better shinobi is really admirable. Even though she's dead shy, she has been there when Naruto needs her. To encourage him during the Exam, to encourage him before his fight with Neji. She kept him from darkness when Neji died, and even would have been willing to become that shield for him. Even now she continues to fight.
What surprises me the most is she can have this unresentful and kind personality despite being looked as as trash by her family and not only can keep going, but pull others up even though it was her cousin that died.
Kakuzu

A perpetual badass.....Firstly, I love masked shinobi (look at my Sig). Kakuzu was probably the most badass of the masked shinobi. His first action is to destroy part of a wall...a feat that until then had only been Tsunade's strength level or Sakura's to destroy things with one's fist. After that, he just casually waits until Hidan loses, and then proceeds to wreck. He pimp slaps Asuma with a briefcase that contains the money from killing Asuma's friend....the ultimate **** You.
Afterwards, he's also the first shinobi to practically outmanuver Kakashi despite his sharingan advantage. Until Shikamaru's trick and back-up...Kakuzu was completely overwhelming Kakashi even though he had Choji and Ino to help out as well. It took, Kakahsi, Shikamaru, Ino, Choji, Naruto, and Yamato's efforts to kill him, and even then it was kinda cheap....I mean logically who falls for the same tactic twice in a row.
To cap it off, he was calm under fire, and rarely boasted about himself....he just got to work. He also had a love for history which is something I share, and then the final notch. Historically, he survived Hashirama Senju in a battle...and that's before he even had Earth Grudge Fear! His back story of being screwed over by his village is also a real tragety.

Sadly there isn't much we saw from him, but just look at him....PURE BADASS! The Steam Armor, the Kasa (hat), and the steam pack are really intimidating. On top of this, he had a reserved and respectful attitude when he spoke with Naruto. Also, he was the only one to lash out against Obito upon going into his tailed beast form (Kokuo). Finally, the sealing deal was when Han performed the Legendary Falcon Kick that blew Naruto and Bee into a wall and wrecked said wall. Also, his simply punch was able to stop KCM Naruto in his tracks! His Taijutsu skill may have been one of the one's Kisame mentioned fighting when the former was facing Gai on the Turtle Island. Basically he had an extremely cool look, from what I could tell a nice personality, and he actually had some self-will and control.
