Also just as you say hashirama can easily start the battle by using bringer of darkness I can also say nagato can start off by summmoning the chameleon n hashirama would never find him. Also flower tree world is easily repel with deva path ability also

Preta path would be absorbing Mokuton all day since hashi can make a forest in a matter of seconds.

BoD on the other hand is instant darkness, meaning that nagato has no idea what hashi will use next, so he wont know what path to use. Also, with chameleon, nagato still cant tell the difference between mokuton bunshins, so he would be exposing himself by attacking fake hashis...
