It depends on how much you want to spend. Giving a brief look online, you can get the whole starter assembly for less than $150, which isn't terrible.

Probably the most embarrassing thing that has happened to me was when I had to give a presentation for the journal club in my lab. I thought I had prepared really well. However, after giving the presentation, my PI grilled me really hard, and I found out I didn't know as much as I thought I did. He said I didn't do good enough in front of my whole lab and made me redo the whole thing the following week. I probably spent 20 hours preparing and reading through 200+ pages of supplemental material... Afterwords, he told me I did a good job. I was the only undergrad that ever presented in his lab, and he was judging me at the level of his graduate students. I should've known better.
I'm most embarrassed by failure to perform, as above.

Which one hurts more? Physical pain or emotional pain?
I would be inclined to say emotional pain is worse from the standpoint that your body can block out physical pain (to a degree) when it becomes extreme. However, there's not a good way to quantify emotional pain, so you can't definitively say one way or the other.
