Yeah pretty much did, but I wasn't trying to be too harsh

I was going to say DNA replication, when the guy brought up cells it made me think of something on that level, but I don't think that "DNA replication" is the correct way you would describe that process. Idk haha

Telomeres serve as a repeating length of codons that help to stave off corrosion of the actual code used for protein synthesis. Kind of like how margins help to keep damage to the paper from destroying the information on it.

Yep helps preserve the genetic code

I've just heard of it through an article, I might botch what I remember, but it was talking about through science we may be able to increase the average lifespan quite dramatically, it had to do with stopping the telomeres from getting damaged, (I think I read every time they replicate, they shorten and that is basically what causes us to age)

Edit: The article went into greater detail and probably made more sense than what I'm saying but that is all I can recall, it was a few months ago.

It was far less known several years ago when I first encountered it while doing research on cancer. It wasn't that article that I encountered - but it covers the idea.

All cancer cells (which are immortal cell lines - like bacteria) have activated telomerasse. The suggested reason why multi-cellular organisms have abandoned telomereasse is due to rogue mutations within tissues (cancer) being more likely to spread and overtake the organism.

While that provides an evolutionary reason for the shift... the evolutionary mechanics as to how, exactly, multi-celled organisms with sexual reproduction emerged is... well... not clear.

What shortens as time increases?

Hint: it's not humans, plants, animals in general. If you come up with an answer different than mine but is essentially true I will still credit you.

Alternate awnser;

Your lifespan, that is, if your implying that doesn't affect you.

If time increases, that means space has been streched as well, making the perception of time, if indeed you're not affected, as if it moves slowly.

Depending on the stretch of space, a day for those affected, could be a lifetime for you.

So, in relation to time streching, your lifespan shortens.
