uH NO. Guns GIVE Criminals the control over people, LUL citizens too dont give a f*** about the laws either, so you're telling me a husband and a wife fighting, that husband is full of wrath going to obey the law?? DUDE PLEASE.
Actually, having the guns legalized means that if you keep a proper register of the owners, they'll be trackable. Most of criminals don't get their guns through the legal market; this means when guns are illegal for common citizens they became vulnerable and unarmed targets, while the criminals keep getting guns from the illegal traffic.

Not really. You would have to be an idiot to commit a crime with a registered gun.
Buying a gun for the purpose of killing others shows that you have planning ability. Makes insanity pleas a lot more difficult.

Nope, Just ask the mexican drug cartels. Everyone can buy a gun off the black market but no one can defend themselves because no legal citizens have guns or they hide them if they do. Guns are everywhere and now they can be made using 3D printers. Criminals can obtain anything through the black market, just look how well drug control has worked. Drug control and gun control are both the same type of thing, if you ban it then a market is formed around it and people funnel drugs/guns because there is profit to be made.

Because most people, after spending money on a firearm, are going to run straight out and try to piss off people who (themselves) own firearms and provoke a police response to their actions?

Even if we assume a completely chaotic and malevolent world where people would kill anyone for anything... if you were to come and kill one of my family, because "having guns makes crime easier" - then doesn't the same apply to me? I could simply take my gun and go kill you for killing someone I care about.

Most people don't actually have a criminal mindset. Intimidation and other such methods don't often occur to them. The 'worst' you can expect out of the average person is attempts to sneak off with stuff they haven't bought. Shooting the place up to take what they want isn't really how most people think.

And those that do think about that kind of stuff, often do so knowing that they invite retalliation for it (from law enforcement or those they just pissed off by doing what they did).

Bold: That also right.
I live in Mexico, so I get the point of the cartel. The black market allows criminals to point a gun to us, and since they have money to bribe the police (or worse they police it self is part of the cartel), we, the citizens, are very vulnerable. Since you're not suppose to be carrying guns, and you don't usually have large amounts of mine for bribes, the situation gets very tricky. Here the law only applies to whoever doesn't have enough money to erase the charges.
As I see it, U.S doesn't have such a corrupt government as ours, so legalizing guns should be alright.

Our politicians are corrupt. Our police forces aren't too corrupt, its mainly just certain officers who just want power. Right now 58/68 of the county sheriffs in Colorado are suing the state for the gun laws they passed, they also refuse to enforce those laws as they go against the oath they swore when they got into office.

Legalizing guns in Mexico won't stop the cartels but it would eat into their profits. It would also disempower a lot of the gangs that run around paying "tribute" to the cartels and would allow regular citizens to protect their lives and what they own. Even if your cops are not willing to stop a crime due to being bribed you could stop the crime yourselves, the person you protected may get a gun and protect someone else as well and hopefully the cycle would continue.

Even if your cops won't help you could protect yourself and your neighbors. If they did the same for you then criminals would have difficulty robbing the area where you live. They would go elsewhere as criminals want easy targets, how many times do you hear about an armed soldier being robbed/assaulted/raped when not in a war zone?

Fun fact: Mexican Drug cartels pour millions into fighting against the legalization of pot
