Actually I saw this one thread suggesting that Itachi let himself get hit because it didn't really matter as well he was finishing Izanami or it had been finished(or something along those lines). It was a good read, well at least I thought so.

The thread is called something like this "What people don't understand about the Itachi and Kabuto fight". Again not the exact title, but I think it was something along those lines.

Was it part of his plan? I seriously doubt it. Kabuto never bisected Itachi again after that. If it were part of Izanami it would happen again. Izanami began when Kabuto stabbed that crow clone and its eye went blind.

I disagree.

First off, Itachi was immortal so that's one count against him. After that, he was cut in half. Before you call Izanami, remember that the technique works by taking pictures of certain scenes and replaying them. As such...he was actually cut in half, and hence killed. Thirdly, without Sasuke, Kabuto's sound genjutsu defeated him.

To conclude, Kabuto merely injected DNA into him....are you going to deny Madara soloing the Kage based on Senju DNA. Will you deny Sasuke's feats because he has his brother's eyes? No, this fight was 2 versus 1 and Kabuto still almost won (not even having his edo army).

Iirc Izanami starts right before Kabuto slashes him on Chap 585 page 13. Itachi "dies" only once during this fight I believe and that's when he was protecting Sasuke.
