Konnichiwa, guys!
One of the greatest theories that I’ve read at NB is, obviously, the theory “SOSP is Uzumaki”. In this thread, however, I won’t discuss about the accuracy of the theory. I want to clear some doubts that people have about the title of Rikudou Sennin and to give you proof that title of Rikudou Sennin 六道仙人 can't prove that he is Uzumaki.
Rikudou Sennin first appeared in manga chapter 373 (Shitei Jidai!). Now, please, look at this picture:
In the red box you can see the title of Rikudou Sennin. His name is written in kanji 六道仙人, but next to the kanji you can also see his name written in hiragana りくどうせんにん.
!Read before you continue! Before we continue you should know that almost all Japanese sentences contain both kanji and hiragana, while some additionally use katakana. Why? One kanji can have many different meanings. Because of that Japanese use hiragana next to kanji to point out only one meaning used in particular sentence.
As we’ve already seen title of Rikudou Sennin is 六道仙人, written in hiragana like this りくどうせんにん. Now I will type word (六道 - rikudou) in Japanese online dictionary. This is the result:
As you can see we have a problem. Rikudou -kanji 六道- in the meaning ''the six realms'' is written diferent in Hiragana. While our word Rikudou is written in hiragana like this りくどう , Rikudou in the meaning ''the six realms'' is written like this ろくどう. The difference is in first sign り - ろ. Sign ろis pronuounced Ro (ろくどう- Rokudou) while sign り is pronounced Ri (りくどう- Rikudou).
Because of this I'll type word rikudou written in hiragana like this りくどう. This is the result:
The word Rikudo, kanji 六道 and hiragana りくどう, in the dictionary is recognized as name of family or surname.
Again I will type word (仙人) in Japanese online dictionary. And this is the result:
We have match here, guys! Dictionary recognized word Sannin, kanji 仙人 and hiragana せんにん, as common word meaning immortal mountain wizard (in Taoism) or mountain man (a hermit) or one not bound by earthly desires or the thoughts of normal men.
NOTE! If you can't see the results very well in these pictures you can try to type in online dictionary
So, according to the translation, word Rikudou (りくどう) can only be name of the Family or Surname of a person.
Also, word Sennin is translated as wizard, hermit, and Sennin is a common Japanese character name translated as hermit, sage, etc. (Eg Ikkaku Sennin (一角仙人 "One-horned Immortal")). This means that word Sennin shouldn’t be translated, but it should stay in original Sennin.
According to this, Rikudou is probably Surname of our SOSP while Sennin is his character name.
NOTE! Some of the better scanlation groups didn’t translate Rikudou Sennin, but they kept original!
