I think Kishi floods his fanbase with too much information for them to remember all of it. Things like chakra natures, Edo Tensei, etc. has so much knowledge to it that a lot of people won't understand unless they read the wiki. Kishi overestimates his fanbase.

You don't even need to read the wiki, just pay attention to the manga. Unfortunately a lot of people here don't even do that.

It was never stated that you couldn't only use elements that your affiliated with. It's not messing the plot up it's adding to it. When Sasuke took the element test his affinity was lightning off the back but he learned fire first. Affinity only means your chakra is mostly based on that element.

Everyone has all elements. True earth users don't need to use hand signs to a basic earth wall. That's what the hand signs are for. The walls used by the non earth users are weak. That's why there's a bunch of them using it.

To put it plainly:

You will be able to use the elements you have an affinity for easier/at a higher level than the ones you do not. It is never stated once in the manga that you CANNOT use elements that you don't have an affinity for.
