Itachi's most powerful abilities are the spiritual weapons Yata Mirror and Totsuka Sword. However, they are only as strong as the user. For example if someone like Sasuke has Yata and Totsuka, he will not be able to use them as good as Itachi would. What's more is that Itachi has a low chakra reserve so he will not last long. hmm

As for Madara, his most powerful abilities are his own variation of Chibaku Tensei(Meteor technique) and Perfect Susano in a complete stabilized form. Madara's Chibaku Tensei is much larger than Itachi's Susano so will easily destroy it or damage it, causing Itachi to also absorb some damage and thus causing him to not use the spiritual weapons properly. If he doesn't die by their impact that is. Now coming to the Perfect Susano, look at what Madara says about it at the bottom in the manga scan.

He states that "one slash of its sword possesses the power to break all creation". What are Yata Mirror and Totsuka Sword? They are creations created by Rikudo Sennin who is their creator. Doesn't this evidently tell you that Madara's Perfect Susano is probably the best Susano overall. Madara is the best Uchiha and the True Solo King of Naruto.

No.He went to stop edo tensei which would end up sending every edo including madara back to the pure world.
Only thing is that madara knew the hand signs necessary to stay in the living world.
If not then itachi would of basically stopped the war himself.

Sure Itachi wanted to stop Edo Tensei in order to bring the war in favour of the Shinobi Alliance but he knew that he couldn't deal with Madara. Look at the manga scan carefully and analyze it. I know what you gonna say, "he was talking about the masked Tobi Madara". But wait, remember when Tobi(Obito) who was actually the masked man stated that "if Itachi knew about me, I'd be dead." This obviously suggests that Itachi doesn't know that the man behind the mask is Obito.

Yes, unfortunately even the Master of Illusions was deceived. So Itachi here in the manga scan is referring to the real Madara Uchiha even though he doesn't know he has really been edo'ed. Itachi knew he couldn't stop Madara which is why he told Naruto and the Alliance to deal with him otherwise, he would've went after him as soon as releasing Edo Tensei or rather just after stopping Kabuto because he'd be sealed.
