I can't say with much certainty, though it's likely because you didn't study enough, you didn't pay attention in lecture, your teacher didn't cover the material adequately, you didn't seek help when you should've, you didn't have anyone you trusted to find help in, you have issues with taking tests, or any combination of these factors...

Maybe it was pronounced like that in ancient greek though and that's why it's incorrectly transcribed like that. Yeah that's a possibility. The modern greek language has nothing to do with the ancient greek one though so it's incorrect but I now understand why.
Well, outside of Greece, the Greek alphabet is used primarily for mathematical notation. The way it is spelled and pronounced in other languages is variant, and you shouldn't be so quick to criticize.
