Above or at least madara's level. According to what we've heard the more Uchiha feels pain and loss the stronger they become. He had to go through so much and possibly way more(Madara didn't have to kill his own parents)

Why was he not the Uber Uchiha from all that loss, the ENTIRE clan?

And I'm not saying Itachi wasn't VERY good, he just wasn't on god level like madara and the first.

While he was quite the genius and a very skilled ninja, he was not on the same level as madara and I doubt he could even beat naruto now. Naruto has experience fighting uchihas as well. Guy could probably beat him opening his gates. Itachi is not god level. Mid hokage level most likely.

Anyways Itachi is already strong. Any stronger would be stupid. we have all seen his abilities. I would have loved to see an itachi without sickness but that will never happen :/

Opening 6 or 7 gates guy is stronger than a normal kage most likely. 8 gates would be insane and if madara wasn't an edo he would be dead. Nothing survives 8 gates.

Itachi's eyes go blurry, and then he vomits blood in a 5 minute battle with a decent skilled Uchiha with just a 3t. That's why he isn't the best.

Uhu... Gates are alright, sadly, an 8 gate user is likely to be a genjutsu dummy, sO that kinda settles the score as far as Konoha´s beasts regard. I feel Itachi as an awesome extremely skilled shinobi. Kishi depicts discipline, code, and tech mastery particularly in this character.
Correct, he´s not a mobile chakra source, neither a hell-bringer, nor a tools guy, i´d say he´s the all-around-shinobi, just as good as he is, will bring the enemy down.
