Me too, the only moment where I felt that Naruto was about ninjas was on the zabuza arc, sometimes the anbu members remind me a little about ninjas.

depends on the definition of a ninja. Kishimoto's take on ninja is someone who learns ninjutsu. Not summon who dresses with a mask and fights in the shadows. So different takes.
