I wanted to use the Biblical idea of Fruit of Eden in a new manga I'm writing.

I won't enter extreme detail, but basically, "anyone who eats of these fruit will not be able to enter the kingdom of Heaven". As for what these fruit supply, they grant their consumer Superhuman abilities. An individual will not lose any physical ability from consuming these fruit, but instead will be damned to hell.

Tell me, does this sound too much like One Piece? The Fruit won't be able to grant humans animistic properties. So, what do you think? Too much like One Piece?

Nope, not at all. It sounds original enough.

Any "fruit" that "gives powers" will be compared to One Piece. Maybe try to symbolize it in a different way!

Make the fruits different, powers different and you got a sick manga!

Sounds cool, but you could probably use just apples instead, since that alone is quite iconic in the Bible.

I'd be interested to see what the consequences are. I imagine that over time, their body would become more grotesque and inhuman until they go insane. That reminds me a bit of Claymore... xD

Sounds pretty original but to religious. If you want a wider viewer base, you should remove some religious aspects to it. Try some sort of other downside to it rather than the heaven/hell thing.

It's pretty cool.... Still I think it sounds like One Piece.... There the fruit gives you power but then you cannot swim and here you get powers but you cannot go to heaven.... =D =D

Unless the majority plot is set in heaven/hell or there is lot of resurrection, then the 'can not go to heaven' aspect will have very little impact until the consumer (Whom I am guessing is the Protagonist) actually dies which typically happens at the end....... unless of corse u are trying to pull off something like Jigoku Shoujo. But then again u can use a John Constantine scenario..... that may sound interesting.

I agree. If that were to be the punishment, very little would seem to come from it. If all the characters who eat the fruit are cursed to hell, why fight each other? They would most likely join to fight against those who don't eat the fruit. The side effect should be something that affects them if they do something wrong while alive. Such as One Piece and water.

So with the heaven/hell part, it sounds pretty dumb. Take that away to add some other punishment, sounds like One Piece.

Aye....

While I m no Mangaka I have a idea too: Since the fruit is fruit of knowledge... it will grant knowledge of power but in return take away the knowledge of consumer's existence from everyone, ie, no one will remember him.... this may be a good setting for a combat based manga. Either that or there can be a John Constantine, a hero with a anti hero personality (like wolverine) destined for hell but seeking redemption through good deeds.

It sounds good. OP was probably based on the idea of the forbidden fruit too.

It sounds almost identical to one piece. The only difference is you switched out "Weak to salt water" for "denied access to heaven."
