Little theory on FTG and the difference between its users
First of all, we know 3 different cases of Hiraishin users:
1) Tobirama - creator of the jutsu, sensor, so far nothing shows that he use any tags
2) Minato - second user, introduced FTG kunai which had tags and was capable to tag others by engraving the tag with his own chakra
3) Genma, Raido and that other guy - have to do it together for unspecified reason, learned from Minato
1) Tobirama most likely is not using any tags, as he is a sensor-type, so he can determine location of people he can sense. That's why we haven't seen him using any tags, as he do not need them to perform Hiraishin.
2) Minato on the other hand, isn't a sensor-type shinobi and because of that he created tags. Tags are made from his own chakra and it should be much easier to sense your own chakra when you are not a sensor type, than to sense foreign chakra that isn't strong enough to be sensed by anyone (like Naruto while using Kyuubi's powers in Part 1 for example).
The tags acts as beacons, allowing Minato to locate them, but as they are made from chakra, they should require remaking from time to time. I suppose so, because such chakra marking would not be permanent, as there is no way to leave so much chakra to make it permanent.
3) The Hokage Bodyguard Trio on the other hand do not use tags made on their own. Shikaku said that they are going to place a mark on Katsuyu (changed on Tsunade) and those 3 later teleported to her location. I was thinking what can be the difference and I have come to this conclusions:
a) Only one of them is a sensor and he was to track the tag place on Tsunade
b) Another is chakra provider to move from place to place
c) Third one makes for chakra control required for this surely complicated jutsu
d) As a team that works with each other on this for a long time, they should be tuned to each other and would have great cooperation required for this jutsu. Replacements would be out of question, as new person wouldn't be so tuned to others.
Well, I know that this is quite short thread, but I post it just in case I would be right in the end
And BTW: Minato will not need tags to get to the battlefield with Naruto acting like a lighthouse for everyone.
