Itachi was the only thing keeping Obito in line for part one & two.

Sasuke grew up to his liking, and Itachi is dead. Only a few bijuu remain [to be captured]. There is nothing left to hinder his ambitions.

Obito was the one to flee from Itachi.

The only movie written by Kishimoto pretty much shows this:

Itachi shows up to rescue Sakura and immediately realizes that physical attacks won't work:

Itachi says he knows a way to hurt Obito in spite of Kamui:

Obito chooses to go "Well, shit. I don't want to get soloed, so I'm out." and teleports away:

FYI, constantly keeping his distance is how Obito kept even Kamui a secret from Itachi.

Conclusion:

Obito was incredibly, incredibly cautious of Itachi & kept his distance

He even stayed out of Akatsuki when Itachi was roaming.

(So both Orochimaru and Obito have that in common.)

Even in death Itachi nearly killed Obito. I'll hand it to Itachi, he is extremely brilliant but Obito had Kamui to thank for his survival. If Itachi knew about Kamui and its weaknesses, there would have been a good chance for a counter to that.

All this and yet Itachi was the one doing Obito's bidding. If he really thought Obito was "shit" as you put it then why didn't he just kill Obito and get it over with. I mean let's face it the only other people in akatsuki who knew somewhat who Obito really was was Nagato, Konan, and Kisame. The rest of them didn't even know Obito existed until he stepped in as Tobi to replace Sasori after he died. For a great deal of time Obito wasn't even an active member of the group. Itachi could've killed him easily without a big risk of being found out. But instead of fighting him he just simply got his help to kill the clan and then joined his group in an agreement to keep the village safe. Then he tried to take his life via a sneak attack after death. Not saying Obito could've beat Itachi but all of this stuff you tried to twist could easily be looked at another way

And what's with people using movie references? Regardless of whether Kishi wrote it or not, movie events aren't manga events. If it didn't happen in the manga, it has nothing to do with the manga

well movie is non canon but still i think it's enough to say that Itachi > MS Tobi and Rinnegan MS Tobi >= Itachi.
Itachi would still stand a chance against rinnegan, we all saw how Nagatos fight went, yes he was crippled but he was more of a powerhouse with Rinnegan than Tobi is, aside from the paths with the Jinchuriki tobi has yet to show Rinnegan techs. like Nagato and Madara.
a perfect example is that he phased through FRS instead of absorbing it.

without obito, madara can't control juubi and madara can't be revived again(in human form not edo)
obito knows this. that's why he isn't scared of madara.
