Well graphic novels are suppose to be made of comics and not of actual books such as harry potter. The term has been bent all around so there isn't a clear definition of what a graphic novel is anymore

The term is very loose and everything you told people not to include as one of their answers indeed fall under the definition.
The term itself is stupid what would other wise be called a comic to the majority of people could be called a graphic novel if you just clump enough chapters into one hardback spine.
