Is Orichimaru( and/or Kabuto) Battle Smart?

This is a a question that popped into my head when I saw the thread asking which characters were the smartest.

We all know there are Different measures that can be used when looking at how smart someone is. So I thought

to myself, Orochimaru and Kabuto are definitely the smartest Ninjas when it comes on the scientific approach but

are they very analytical in their battles? I asked because of the way Hiruzen was able to take away his arms and

the way he gets pawned by Sharingan genjutsu more than once and certain other things. for Kabuto I question

him due to the whole Inzanami thing. This is a thread in no way trying to diminish these characters but trying to

see if they have battle smarts to go along with their scientific ones.

Eh. . . Hard to say. Orochimaru most likely is capable of coming up with quick plans during the heat of battle. . But he has little to fear from most jutsu and opponents so he doesn't even make efforts to dodge or react to their attacks half the time. Like during his fight with the Kyuubi possessed Naruto, and how he mocked being impaled by Itachi till he realized what the sword was.

Kabuto, on the other hand is to an extent. He both makes sure he is prepped for battle and is willing to adjust his plans during battle. His fight with Tsunade, for example. He exploited her fear of blood to his advantage. And Kabuto's fight with both Sasuke and Itachi showed us his knowledge and his ability to improvise.

He did fairly well against the two brothers when I suspect that at most he thought he'd have to fight one. He doesn't stand out as much mainly because Kabuto doesn't switch up his plans too often. But from his last fight, yes.

Using the Sound Four to get rid of Amaterasu, trap Itachi and Sasuke at the back of the cave, and then catch them in a genjutsu and nearly rid Itachi of the fight at that moment shows that he's quick to think of new strategies.

Orochimaru: Not as much as other characters due to his insanely high amount of arrogance and his god complex. He is basically an immortal so he doesn't need to be as battle smart as others.
Hiruzen managed to tke Orochimaru's arms because Orochimaru believed he was in a state of total 100% advantage over the Hokage due to Edo Tensei and him being in his 60s. Hiruzen peaked Orochimaru's ambitious interest in learning all the Jutsu in existence by telling him he knows a secret Jutsu. Orochimaru was curious, immortal, and could have Hiruzen dead with a snap of his fingers. He was arrogant.

Kabuto: Because he is not an (almost) immortal like Orochimaru, he has to think smarter in battle, like his battle against Tsunade. He avoided a battle with Kakashi on the grounds that Kakashi would just copy his Jutsu, which is pretty smart.
After he gained Orochimaru's cells he became much more like Orochimaru battle-wise.

In conclusion, Orochimaru doesn't need to be battle smart because of his immortality (how many people in the Ninja world have RDS and Sharingan?), and Kabuto was pretty battle smart but he became extremely arrogant, just like Orochimaru.

***** i agree with you both Kabuto and Oro get powned by the same person that are Itachi wih izanami+Sharinga genjutsu.
As going against an uchiha or senju they are not capable to battle smart but from those clans the don"t have weakness on other badass kage lvl.

Orochimaru, definitely not.


Kabuto, before he became Kabutomaru w/ Edo Tensei, DEFINITELY.

The man defeated Tsunade, a legendary Sannin, with pure battle tactics. Knowing he couldn't defeat her, he used her fear of blood against her.

If that doesn't say he has some battle tactics, I don't know. Of course that doesn't mean he is the strongest, but definitely an effective tactic.

Of course. Kabuto was proficiently fighting Sasuke and Itachi which means Battle Smarts. Orochimaru fought intellectually when battling Shizune, Tsunade, Jiraiya, Tonton and Naruto..

Oro reminds me of how I would play naruto on ps3 if I had unlimited health. I would just chakra dash and attack all the time.

My point is, he really can't die so he can fight however he pleases without thinking too much about it.

Kabuto is very analytical and a genius so I give him props.

Also I think its worth mentioning Orochimaru was known as the genius in the hidden leaf.

Kabuto definitely has some battle smarts.

This wasn't much of an actual battle but he was mighty impressive when planning to "kill" Sasuke

I can't think of many who planned for that sort of thing. I feel like if a similar situation were to happen now half of these things wouldn't be taken into consideration (Sadly)

Using his own blood to blind the clones? Not bad...

As for Orochimaru, I can't speak too much for him besides regular assumptions. I'd assume he was pretty crafty though.
