Although true that shizune was pretty much fodder naruto had itachi not intervened would have lost that tug of war he was literally hanging on by the skin of his teeth until he was saved and as for be its pretty fair to say he was next cause the Rinne Chameleon pretty much had him immobilized and both of their souks and body's were going to get fed to the king of hell to be revived later

I say prime in reference to young age and power at its fullest at that point in time naruto being shrouded in the kyuubi chakra during the battle was in fact at his prime because that's as strong as he was/had been at that point in time
