sasuke kind of screwed himself up....I know I know. Itachi killed everybody but...sasuke made his own choices in his life as well Itachi screwed him up some yes but sasuke was doing the most.

Even though shikimaru has been hyped up to be second only to his father, itachi's analysis skills exceed his. Itachi was able to quickly find out about nagato's shared vision(a feat that took jiraiya and others in the leaf, including kakashi, shikaku and ino's dad, a long amount of time to discover) and neutralize all of the eyes. Kabuto was shocked by this and states that itachi was to good. He later states that itachi can simply peer into ones very soul (metaphorically) and decide what their motives are and what they will do next.

Also itachi is always calm, while after shikamaru's first or second plans falls apart, he becomes irritated and stressed.

I feel as if itachi's intellect is a bit overlooked because he is also a extremely skilled combatant.

Jiraiya noticed the shared vision, he just wasn't sure what the trick was at the time. Jiraiya was also busy fighting them, Itachi had the luxury of sitting back and watching out of harm's way while Nagato fought Naruto and Bee.

Itachi's ability to read an opponent's intentions can only get him so far. For instance, Itachi tried to take a "bullet" for Sasuke when Itachi was actually Kabuto's target all along.

1. Nagato was attacking Bee and Naruto, Itachi then got Koto Amatsukami'd and surprise attacked Nagato (whom as an Edo Tensei was not allowed to fight other Edo Tenseis). After that, Nagato became under the control of Kabuto whom Shinra Tensei'd Itachi, Naruto, and Bee while they were talking and then pounced on Naruto. Bee tried to jump to Naruto's rescue, but the chameleon and King Yama saw Bee coming and Kabuto-Nagato countered. Itachi was hiding and watching while this was happening and then sprang into action while Kabuto-Nagato was busy wrestling with them.

2. Why would the shared vision be more obvious with the six paths? Jiraiya had to try and fail himself to learn about the shared vision, he tried attacking them from their blindspots and they reacted accordingly anyway. He speculated about what it was, signaling or sensing, but determined it was shared vision. There's no reason to believe that Itachi wouldn't have a similar experience, if Itachi did indeed deploy the same tactics as Jiraiya trying to exploit their blindspots and not just attack them head on.

3. "Him" who? Itachi or Kabuto? Itachi leaped in the "way" of Inorganic Animation, thinking that Sasuke was the target, when Itachi was actually the target since Kabuto needed Sasuke. Being able to judge an opponent's intentions can only help so much in a battle.
