I am a religious person, really believe in god/jesus, life after death, etc... I am a student, which is doing Geology, chemistry and biology, so basically the three main science that go against religion (formation of universe, how things work, and human evolution, respectively)...
*-
But I still believe... However I read today the first bit of the bible, which says God made this and that, like this and like that, bla bla... I wasn't conviced lool... But then I still believe..

The bible was written by us... And it was used to try and control people already, and I believe some of the things in there are made up and others are just misunderstood/not interpreted correctly.... And some of the things were made just so people wouldn't question it, there's also exaggeration...

But again, I repeat, I try to interpret it in my way.. So people say I am not a "strong" believer, or not so religious because I do so and I believe in science??

Thoughts??

Warning:
This thread aim is to create a good discussion, not people disrespecting others. Disrespect someone and you'll be reported

Being a Christian... having your doubts but believing nonetheless. That's what I do. I do have my doubts but it's part of it. It's hard.
But we all have our opinions.
Btw, your sig rocks. Ronaldinho is beast.

No, 'having faith' holds no substance and is part of the mass brainwash.. well..that depends in what way you interpret 'having faith'. If it's simply to stay true to a positive mind-set, 'having faith' is plausible..But if you 'have faith' in a higher being that'll be there in the after-life, you're delusional.
MLK used religion to purify his way of thinking like the way Jesus handled situations in the biblical stories. Him, having faith might be interpreted in another way.

MLK.. religiuon had a great influence on who he was and he done... same for malcolm x, same for muhamad ali that refued to go to war, same for nelson mandela, that has I have mentioned he said religion helped him to endure his life in prison and forgive....

religion makes us wise, make us more human, less selfish, spread more love, think about others...

Yes I believe...
No, God is only one, humans can't make things, they can only change it into something new... Some people think jesus is a god, that is wrong, god is only one...

he let things happen naturally, as he predicts, etc... There are saints, angels that may have an influence in peoples life... I don't think it's god himself

Well, that's a part of the bible where i haven't looked much to... anyway it's said they shouldn't, it can be seen right or wrong by different point of views... Anyway that's one of the part of the bible where I think it's not well understood, people think of the things they read literally, don't use their intelligence

I am only 18 so I don't know everything that is in the bible, so I don't know about that, I would have to read, come to a conclusion then reply to your question...

comparing satan to itachi huh? And no, did you read what I said about satan? His aim is to take as many as he can with him, so of course he will try to deceive people, in thinking it's the right way, or even pretend they are from the good side, etc... when i mean they i mean satan and other demons... And he isn't in any way good....

got more questions?

God killed a town fulled of gays? What kind of blasphemy is this? madness, this is madness! that's what i am talking about, a lot people make up stuff, and some of the made up stuff in the bible
Thats what i was saying! I cried so hard that night. I literally was like " Why god?! Why yu no let them live!!?!?!".
I dont read the bible but i hear and i like the stories from the bible...like how jesus walked on water....he had that chakra on point XD.

Lol!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont even read the bible and my religion is based on it >.>....im not going to either. I dont know who wrote that. For all i know this could be an older version of disney. Im still a believer, i just not fond of the bible specially after what my mom told me...she said that god killed a town full of gays, he told them to stop or something and they didnt and BANG! They all died. Which i find not fair.. if gay guys want to f*ck each other in the anus....let them. One reason i dont want to read the bible, but i know out of all the sins in there, ive commited about 60%.
well that's a good enough reason to not want to read the bible..
well if being gay is a sin, and sinning is wrong, then it could be about SODOM and GOMORROH..

got more questions?

what I mean is the way people perceive the *DEVIL* aka Satan, Lucifer..
as in its God's plan to have Satan Lucifer Devil play the bad guy role so they would choose God's Good guy side in life
and not do bad things.. in the common knowledge of the knowledgeable , the bible is just scriptures and texts of stories and rules that have no proof of it being developed by who are said to have developed it..

Who in the bible have been proven to exist in real life??..

if having faith in GOD means believing in HIM beyond a shadow of a doubt
then questioning HIS existence would be wrong wouldn't it??

Do you think GOD would want you to be gullible and believe in a book about GOD that cant be proven to be true??

Would GOD want HIS believers to just believe something without doubt..???

Exactly. It is, at the core, a spiritual guide. I was just referring to the delusions that some cling onto which is unnecessary but also unimportant to confront ppl with if they use religion solely to steer their lives.

But other than that, it's also a fact that you don't need religion to have moral standards, wisdom, 'being more human', etc. If you lack moral standards, you lack empathy, not religion.

there's no such things as bad guy, you seem to no get my point!! SATAN is not what you see in the movies, that punish people etc... please check what i said again, in a pont that starts with "attention, attention"...

Many times people say why god doesn't help people starving... I know what would happen... People would just start being spoiled, and be like "why help those and not others", so would consider certain stuff bad and expect god to fix it. After death there's life... You are in earth to gain experience, have knowledge and build wisdom and I don't like this term, but be judged....

Some people have to keep in mind that god, gave us free will so blaming him for your issues is retarded.
Thatts like me building island, giving them food and the resources they need to survive. Well time passes on these people are making weapons, cars, buildings all kinds of things. People are killing eachother, there is war going on, sick people doing sick things. I gave them free will, i let them do as they please, dont blame to me because you didnt pay your bills this month or you got knocked up at 16 cause you couldnt keep your legs closed. You made the choices you made, you pay for your mistakes. Every action has a reaction. I dont blame god for none of my problems, thats why they are MY problems

I'm just spiritual ;p not religious. I respect the bible though and I'm as open-minded as one can get. I do have my interpretation of 'God', I just don't like mentioning it as I don't want to be mistaken for a belieber as they have a pitifull interpretation of god.

No, actually yes, but still no.. why? people will make mistakes, regret, etc... Religion reduce those mistakes, lets say makes life more effiecient to those that are smart.. when i say smart i don't mean having A*s and that, but no close minded people, that aren't capable of thinking...

And do you think MLK was makings tuff up on his last speech? Where he talks about God, that let him go up the mountains and see the promise land etc... He knew he was going to die soon after his last speech, are you going to say he guessed? And gave a speech like if he was saying good bye by coincidence?

Let me mention the top comment there:

"I am not by any means a religious man, but the biblical symbolism in this speech is SO powerful. The last couple of lines "So I'm happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord." are probably, at least in my opinion, the best delivered sentences of any public speaker throughout history."

By the way let me just mention another speech, which many don't know, and also short!

But this has to do with racism, another topic

Religion is a respectable, spiritual guide if you're capable of interpreting it's teachings the right way without diving in the dogma and mental walls that the church try to build in your mind.

On the video: MLK talking about the 'promised land' is just another simple perspective of what we could achieve when we strive for intellectual and spiritual upliftment in our society. You see, it's all about interpretations.. that's why people collide in debates when talking about religion, because it's a pure mindfuck-game as people 20 people could all have a different interpretation of 1 biblical phrase.

MLk: Sure, he could have subconsiously sensed his end was near, who knows? I guess he just reached the end of his spiritual journey at that time.

Doubts about what? I doubt anyone on NB could teach me anything when it comes to spirituality and religion. Keep in mind, I rarely go deep on my thoughts anymore as I've had a sh1tload of debates, researches, and philosophical conversations the past 4 years or so. I just got fed up with talking about it as of early October or so. That's why I don't elaborate on my posts as much as I'd had to look up every piece of evidence/article w/e and that's just too much effort.

It's amazing how people come with al interpretations when it comes to religion, they seem that they just don't want to believe it... It's good to question things, it shows you think critically, but still be open minded...
