He is not over-rated unless people say he beats EMS Madara, Obito, or Hashirama.

Nagato wasn't at his free will when fighting Itachi and Nagato was advising Itachi instructing him about what each jutsu does.

While itachi fanboys troll the base with itachi soloes s06p/juubi, which can be very annoying at times.

Beside that nagato has ct while itachi has tsukyomi, i see the favor in itachi's place due to intelligence and reading people's thoughts. Shrina tensei will be repelled by yata mirror and amatersu would be repelled by shrina tensei, leaving those two out.

What? yata mirror changes to the same nature as the attack neutralizing any attack, while totsuka is also a spiritual gore that can seal anything.
So "If," he was able to bansho tenin totsukya (clearly can't) it would seal him up on contact.

I mean just look at Dan's justu, he was a spirit and he was able to fly through everything w/ being touched yet he was able to control tsunade body

this thread started as a poll for whether or not a character was represented poorly and has now become a vs thread between to people...... I think maybe this was destined....

over..rating/under/rating is something fans do.....

understanding literature is something readers do.....Nagato served his purpose so did Itachi....as far as Kishi goes he does this sorta thing from time to time you see a shift in the characters purpose for the story....
just look at Itachi before the time skip to Itachi after the time skip then to after his death....his sole role is a plot devise used to propel the main characters...nothing more nothing less...same for Nagato.

so as far as a poll of whether or not he is portrayed incorrectly I'd say no

Itachi would beat Nagato, because they both have good jutsu, but Itachi's smarter and mobile.

Still though, it would be a good fight, so the only way to overrate Nagato is to say he trumps Madara, Hashirama, etc.

The fact that he was incapable of moving without having to stand on a giant summon was his downfall. Even when he had chakra back from Bee, he wasn't capable of using them properly due to a complete lack of muscle memory.

On a side note, how fast can Itachi even swing the Totsuka Sword? We've seen him hit two targets, a Giant Snake controlled by an arrogant Orochimaru, and a stationary Nagato through the smoke. It should still be possible to dodge the sword with the right technique/speed

Shrina tensei can not repel spiritual chakra, it's just a force look up what that means.

That's what it can touch you but you can't touch it means, it is an ancient weapon that was deemed to make the likes of itachi invincible. When nagato got impaled he couldn't absorb totsuka just like he did with bee's lariat. Have you ever thought of that? Of course not, your fanboy logic is a hinderance to common sense that everyone else can see.

And Don't say some stupid excuse that nagato was being controlled or he couldn't see through little dust with a powerful doujustu (rinnegan). When nagato was being controlled he was absorbing all of the ninjustu that was being thrown at him until itachi's susanoo proved nagato's arsenal useless against susanoo.
