the evolution is the basis.if he would've stick with those same power and no power ups then the no. Of people who would have liked the manga<the people who dont.

also it was made very clear that the naruto is the char. and its obvious that he and the people who are most close to him [friends,master,parents,etc.] will get more attention,i.e. Why sasuke is the second main char. and since they r the main char. it's obvious that their clan history will be revealed.

At the end of the day, for me at least, part 1 will always be a bunch of young ninjas kicking the shit out of each other.

It was brilliantly done, but it just didn't have the oomph for me. Even with part 2's shortcomings I thoroughly enjoy the dark world Kishimoto designed and how major themes were really starting to work their way in. It feels a little more adult for me, and not just combat oriented.

I also prefer part 1 too.
Naruto was still on the focus as the main character; the other ones were not interfering to his development despite having screentime; in fact there were many moments where they were adding up to his development and what manga represents.
About the opness;it is normal to characters to get strong; but they could get stronger in a more ninja-ish ways; for example Naruto is the main character; but he have power-blasts most of the time; he has an elemental affinity known for almost 300 chapters; yet he only has 1 jutsu with it; i would prefer to see a fuuton master rather than a light bulb; weren't ninjas suppose to be sneaky; he is glowing and it is not a problem because he is too damn op.
Eyeballs are getting more screntime than humans; and they are keep getting switched like pokemon cards. I do not even want to get into opness of ms-ems; we have talked a lot on them.
Part 1 was really divine and had many diversities which were interesting; i find many jutsus, abilities and clans really more interesting than a susanoo.
About the screentime of side characters; the focal point is of course should be on main characters; then where is Sakura? Plot is more than "who is the final villain-so6p-save the world-naruto vs sasuke"; it is also all those side things adding up to what manga is trying to tell and all the other themes. Shikamaru, Iruka, Lee, Neji, Sakura and all the others represents different things that the main characters of course can not since every character is different; there are many themes in the manga that must be carried; and it would be happen hardly with only few characters.

Part one to me was all about getting to know the world, characters, and a bit on the villains. Setting up the stage for what is to come. And that's why I like it. Part one had opened the world up to us, shown us cool new things and all. Most characters got some epic battles, and the villains were interesting but not over powered. I think that Part one should have been extended a bit more . . Like, maybe mention or reveal some rogue ninja? Reference members of Akatsuki some how..

Part two is good, but it's really just been getting more and more over powered with attacks and what not. Less and less characters other than Naruto do much. They all sort of support him instead of fighting. I think that the elemental-chakra should have been revealed in part one, too. Part two is all about the more intense drama and action... I just think that we didn't get a good enough grasp on the world by the start of part one to care for much of the Akatsuki at first.

So, I like Part One more because of the build up and the focus on the village, but I can see why people prefer the action-y Part 2 of Naruto.

I prefer Part 2. In my opinion Part 1 was mediocre, and there were lots of anime that I would rather watch.

Part 2, however, is the reason why Naruto is currently in my top 5 anime.
