Saying "It's just plot" is pointless. Everything that happens in this story is "plot"; everything is dictated by the author. This isn't a consensus or democracy where you had a hand in designing his characters and got betrayed. He will do what he wants.

Kabuto had to step in, since Nagato wasn't quite getting the job done, and Nagato being controlled didn't affect the potency of his jutsu (He was more powerful according to Naruto).

Also, Orochimaru wasn't really controlling the Hokage. He had them on "auto" to toy around with Sarutobi. He never took the battle as seriously as he should have.

I have no need to, as Itachi's genjutsu is naturally quicker than Nagato's more physical-oriented techniques for obvious reasons. With effects ranging from physical paralysis to Tsukuyomi's own effects.

None of Nagato's techniques are quicker than Itachi's, hence I don't bother with any of that "How will he beat Chibaku tensei?!?" garbage; Nagato can't cast any of his techniques quicker than Itachi's Tsukuyomi. Simply saying "He has the Rinnegan" is not a real answer as far as him countering Tsukuyomi, as Kishimoto never stated that the Rinnegan possessed the Sharingan's power to counter illusions or cast them.
