I will never understand what people have against filler. Many provide neat information and scenes about minor or side characters, and tie in very well with the main plot. Think of it as expanded universe, like novels to movies/tv-series etc.

And besides, even the worst Naruto episode is better than no Naruto episode - or 99% of the things you can watch online for free...

The difference between the manga and the anime is like the difference between the Harry Potter books and movies. Rowling had little say in the movies, it was mostly the production team of the production companies that held true to the story, they could've done something way different.
