[Suggestion] General Discussion section abused?:

The impression I get is that many times, threads better suited for the Chatterbox do end up in the General Discussion section for some reason.

As to why they end up in the GD section: my guess is that the two sections do somehow seem similar in terms of the nature of some of the topics they handle; usually those which haven't much with anime, manga and comics to do, in general, not counting the more specialised sections such as the Music, Movie or Sports section etc. because how misplaced wouldn't a thread about a terrorist act look in the Sports section? Just an example, but I think the argument holds ground for more ambiguous threads though people seem to be rather blatant now and then..

I'd also say it has to do with the fact that there's sort of a loss in attention that is given a thread if it's in the Chatterbox rather than the General Discussion section, or more appropriately; a gain in attention if you place it there:

If I'm not mistaken, until some point last year, there was still the function where newly made threads in the Chatterbox still showed in the 'Latest Threads' box at the home page. Why was this removed?
I think it's one of, if not THE main reason things looks like they do today.

The result is in whichever case that threads have to be moved, i.e. work for moderators and also a pain for us browsing the forums at times. So does the reasons as to why the function was removed initially still weigh heavier than the workload and inconvenience gained now?

I really don't know why the function was removed in the first place, so does anyone know?
Should the function be activated?

It´s most probably to get more attention, since, like you said, chatterbox threads do not appear on Today´s Topics.

And, if you read the description you'll get an idea for any section what to post in it. The Chatterbox is basically for any thread which can be considered random, when you look at what other sections there are.

The reason for its removal is simple: Magic. Everytime you see something like that, it was magic. Not much can be done though since neither of us are wizards to fix it back. Sooooo...yeah, thread closed.

If you believe a thread is out of place, report it and the mods will take care of it.

And just a small warning, if you post a useless thread (yes, I mean useless in a sense that it has nothing to do with what General Discussion is for, or even if the thread is just a random discussion without any explanation towards it) I will not hesitate to infract and trash. Neither are the other mods, so be warned about it really. It seems discouraging with threats is the only way it works, which is a pity.

I see, though about it:
I realise getting it into the latest threads box gives it some exposure, but reading other's replies, it seems getting it into the today's topics seems more important to the majority, going by the small amount of replies in this thread at least...
Today's topics doesn't show immediately on the home page if I'm correct, so why not allow them that at least, if it'd keep the GD from getting spammed? I mean, for the sake of organisation, if anything, as it doesn't give it the same kind of exposure, yet still a little, hardly enough for trolls to be happy about I think.
To be honest, I think taking control of the popular threads this week was a bigger blow against trolls rather than latest threads, though I'm not denying it had its own effect.
Do you insist we keep reporting still? I'll do that if so.

Oh, ok. But you'll still make the distinction between new and old members, right? Because it feels as if some new members would misunderstand the GD section completely, probably not reading reading the description to begin with, but rather seeing what other threads are in it, following suit. Sounds stupid, yet still.
