No intelligent ninja would do what he did. Naruto calling himself dumb is just adding insult to injury, the fact that he used a jutsu immediately after realizing that preta absorbs ninjutsu is about as simple-minded as you can get :|

I use to think he was the perfect main character too man. But once destiny was brought into the equation, all of his accomplishments meant nothing to me. No matter how much he trained or claimed to is now irrelevant. I still think he's a pretty cool dude, but I now longer see him the same way. Hashirama has taken his spot. But good thread anyway.

OT: For the sake of the plot, yes, he's the best choice for the main character in the series. I don't think Minato as a main character would be all that interesting save for his abilities.

Naruto trained as hard as Lee did (others trained hard too, but don't come even close to these 2), both have my respect for that(Lee is one of my favorite characters too). Don't ignore the fact Naruto worked incredibly hard for most of his powers. He kept going on.

And what only 2 powers? Do we read the same manga?

That's bulls*it.
Lee works 2 weeks: Gets unnoticibale strength, speed, and increase in abilities, he actually works every inch of his powers.
Naruto "works" for 2 weeks: Gets a new power up 99% of the other ninjas can't even dream of.

His training is not as hard as Lee, not even close...

On the topic, being child of prophecy ruins a lot.

Naruto is the Number One Knuckleheaded ninja. It's built into his character. He's not an idiot, but he's certainly not a genius, mentally or combatively. He's nowehere close. Maybe when he's older that may change.
