He respects people who's aim is noble, he respects Naruto, just doesn't agree with him, he respects Madara for the idea of true "peace" (maybe a lie but that is what he knows the plan as), he respected Itachi for his self sacrifice for Sasuke, and he also respect Sasuke for his devotion of avenging his clan, and/or brother. Respect doesn't imply liking or agreeing with someone.
