but i did find this...... After the war, the western notion of a death god entered Japan, and shinigami started to become mentioned as an existence with a human nature,[4] and is a subject in many works of fiction. which in my opinion implies shinigami was around before just wasnt considered with human nature

Sir Derp Obito made a really good point. If you look at closely at the way Mito dresses and her hand-folding posture, it does make sense for them to be a priest clan. He refers to mythology and culture and took that into account. They weren't the type of people to be ignore due to their skills in fuinjutsu. That's why almost all of them were destroyed.

Saying the Uzumakis were a "Rowdy clan" is an even bigger speculation, as there is no information that ever confirms they were a "rowdy bunch." Sir Derp Obito's point is more plausible than a mere speculation as I said before. Only Naruto and Kushina were shown to be brash like that.

Zealot Priests ;)

This IS the answer to the thread, enough said. :p

In Japanese mythology and in the Kojiki, after giving birth to the fire god Hinokagutsuchi, the goddess Izanami dies from wounds from his fire and enters the perpetual night realm called Yomi-no-kuni (the underworld) that the gods retire to and to which Izanagi, her husband, traveled in a failed attempt to reclaim her. He discovers his wife as not-so beautiful anymore, and, following a brief argument afterwards, she promises him she will take a thousand lives every day, signifying her position as the goddess of death.

There are also death gods called shinigami, which are closer to the Western tradition of the Grim Reaper. Shinigami (often plural) are common in modern Japanese arts and fiction and essentially absent from traditional mythology.

idk about specifically shamming, but death deity's were most certainly around before they heard of the grim reaper in world war 2 or when ever it was

but i did find this...... After the war, the western notion of a death god entered Japan, and shinigami started to become mentioned as an existence with a human nature,[4] and is a subject in many works of fiction. which in my opinion implies shinigami was around before just wasnt considered with human nature

I don't want derail this thread any further so this is the last I'm going to speak on this. Though death deities certainly existing in Japanese culture long before Western influence, the shinigami as it is known now is the Japanese version of what we call the grim reaper. Whether the name "shinigami" existed before hand is irrelevant to my point.

And I didn't need to check wikipedia on that I actually read it in a book *gasp* :p

...Well about uzumaki more evidence pointing to them being rowdy overall
Karin is confirmed Uzimaki
but on the other hand so is Nagato... who has not appeared "rowdy".

And Buddhism did not introduce anything "supernatural"

Found a article and link..
Members of this clan were very knowledgeable in the art of fūinjutsu, and were both respected, and feared worldwide because of their prodigious skill. Though noted to be crude in their methods, this however, eventually led to the destruction of Uzushiogakure and the rest of the Land of Whirlpools during the era of Shinobi World Wars, as other nations had begun to see the village as too great a threat to go unchecked.

Crude
1. Being in an unrefined or natural state; raw.
2. Lacking tact or taste; blunt or offensive: a crude, mannerless oaf; a crude remark.
3. Characterized by uncultured simplicity; lacking in sophistication or subtlety: had only a crude notion of how a computer works.
4. Not carefully or skillfully made; rough: a quick, crude sketch.
5. Undisguised or unadorned; plain: must face the crude truth.
6. Statistics In an unanalyzed form; not adjusted to allow for related circumstances or data.
7. Archaic Unripe or immature.

Not what i expected but kinda sounds like Naruto is at times
