What Could've Saved Asuma's Lifs

I don't understand why after Asuma decapitated Hidan his team didn't try to destroy the land covered by Hidan's link symbol. This would've prolonged Asuma's life, reinforcements would've arrived in time, and Hidan and Kakuzu would've retreated, like they did when reinforcements arrived after Asuma's death. Instead the team makes a mistake, letting Hidan with his head reattached easily waltz into his link and deliver a fatal blow to Asuma. This just goes to show that Plot no Jutsu is a S-class ninjutsu that is the strongest in the Narutoverse ^_^
