I don't understand. If Orochimaru could so easily get his arms back by just wearing the Shinigami mask and cutting the Shinigami's stomach then why didn't he do it before? Why didn't he get his arms back by cutting the Shinigami's stomach before? He instead went after Tsunade to heal his arms...

Did Orochomaru require Zetus to get his arms back or was he just plain stupid and had forgotten about the Shinigami mask?

Keep in mind the place he had to go to was in Konoha and Konoha set up a barrier that could sense any intruder. If weakened Orochimaru and his followers went, they would be defeated.

Remember when Orochimaru went to Tsunade he did say there was another method...
He couldnt have done it before because as someone said before, they wouldve been sensed by the barrier and since Orochimaru was weakened, he wouldve been defeated...

For one, he needed a second body to transfer into. But, since he already used that recently, he had to wait 3 years. Secondly, he needed to use the Naka Shrine stone as a catalyst. He couldnt get there because he needed an uchiha to unlock the barrier. And finally, the Naka Shrine was inside the Hidden Leaf Village. Since he could not use jutsu at that point, and his followers were, debatably weak, and Konoha had a barrier to sence intruders, Oro could not infiltrate Konoha to get to the shrine and hope to live (or at least live freely). Konoha would have senced someone come in the barrier and would send an attack force. DUHHH

The technique only works once every 4 years. Oro used it on some guy, before Sasuke arrived at Orochimaru's place. I don't remember his name, but he was chosen by making a huge death match among 100 prisoners or something like that.

So it's obvious he first learned about the mask at some point in time between this, and when he tried to take over Sasuke. The 4-years time laps is also explained in the manga, and can probably be found in the wiki with links to the appropriate manga chapter.

So basically, he would die, if he tried to get his arms back before this time laps would pass. However, he rather wanted Sasuke's body. After all - by changing body, he would also gain arms.

orochimaru got out of the game right befor he was able to transfer again (sasuke killed him and then itachi sealed him), and he required to transfer in order to survive the unsealing of his arms.
his other part could also not unseal himself from anko's seal since he required his dna to reform his body and someone else had to preform the unsealing from the outside.
so he never was in the position to do this.
also, orochimaryu only learned of the death reaper seal right after his battle with the third hokage, his research into the jutsu had required time and as we all know from that part of the manga orochimaru wanted his arms back as soon as possible.

True, but he eventually found a "cure" or medicine that allowed him to use his arms. Or Kabuto found it, whatever, point is, he could use his arms, when he fought Naruto 4 tailed.

He wasn't able to do it by himself but once Sasuke teamed up with Akatsuki and got Zetsu to pursuit with him then revived Orochimaru he was able to help him.
Simply putting it he would of killed himself doing so.
