is it stated anywhere in the manga or anime saying they are a priestly clan..as far as i know its only said because their arms were crossed and were in robes in one scene...but isnt that just speculation. and if its just speculation why are people making theories with that statement backing them up? the funny thing is what i remember being said about the uzumaki is that there a "rowdy bunch". and the defintion of rowdy is- Noisy and disorderly.....since when are preist described as that.....?

Well, you've seen how Kushina and Naruto act? Extrapolate that to a whole clan.

Sir Derp Obito made a really good point. If you look at closely at the way Mito dresses and her hand-folding posture, it does make sense for them to be a priest clan. He refers to mythology and culture and took that into account. They weren't the type of people to be ignore due to their skills in fuinjutsu. That's why almost all of them were destroyed.

Saying the Uzumakis were a "Rowdy clan" is an even bigger speculation, as there is no information that ever confirms they were a "rowdy bunch." Sir Derp Obito's point is more plausible than a mere speculation as I said before. Only Naruto and Kushina were shown to be brash like that.

actually..kushina said there a rowdy bunch. that statement isnt a speculation. saying there not a presitly clan because of the statement is a speculation. good thing i didnt say that. i simply said that it was no where stated that the uzumaki are a preistly clan. also i was trying to point out that some people seem to believe its a fact because they see it everywhere. i think some of the people who use it in theorys dont even know it wasnt in the manga. they just see people saying its true and assume the same

and u say that kushina and naruto are the only ones seen acting like that. what point are u making exactly? u forget about sauskes little admirer, u know the red hair uzumaki one, she was pretty rowdy as well.. oh nd the only three uzumaki we saw act like anything are those 3 characters. the only other uzumaki who wasnt rowdy was a very old probably wise mito. the rest were just seen standing.... and u can see the senju and uchia in one of the recent chapters standing similar to that. are they priestly?

Karin, Naruto, and Kushina were all shown to be a bit rowdy and like we can't go ahead and assume they were actually a priest clan just because of something like posture and the way one member of the clan held herself compared to three other known members that have been shown to be rowdy. Like just because Kushina said the clan was known to be a rowdy bunch doesn't mean every single person was rowdy; Nagato would be a great example of that. And saying such a thing is like me having ten kids and expecting them all to inherit my horrible temper or have the same nose as me or something like that. Plus, in the image that was shown in the manga of the Uzumaki clan was back in the times of Hashirama's era so they could've easily changed the way they acted and shown themselves as a clan over the years.

Well some people go with the logic that

Rikudou=monk
Rikudou=Uzumaki
Uzumaki=priestly clan...

Shinigamis,Shrines, Fuuinjutsu involving supernatural entities, wardrobe, posture, Shinto ritualistic Oni masks (Shinigami Masks), they have all the indications of a priestly/clerical clan.

No I mean the idea of the Grim Reaper was introduced by Westerners and Japanese turned that into Shinigami's.

The concept of death as a sentient entity has existed in many societies since the beginning of history
In Chinese mythology, Yanluo (simplified Chinese: 阎罗; traditional Chinese: 閻羅; pinyin: Yánluó; Wade–Giles: Yen-lo), is the god of death and the ruler of Di Yu (Jp. 地獄 Jigoku, Ko. 지옥 Jiok, "hell" or the underworld). The deity originated from Yama in Hinduism and was adopted into the Chinese pantheon and eventually spread to Japan as Enma-O (閻魔大王) and Korea as Great King Yŏmna (염라대왕). He is normally depicted wearing a Chinese judge's cap and traditional Chinese robes in both Chinese and Japanese depictions.

In Korean mythology, the equivalent of the Grim Reaper is the Netherworld Emissary (저승사자). He is depicted as a stern and ruthless bureaucrat in service of Great King Yŏmna (염라대왕), who escorts all -- good or evil -- from the land of the living to the netherworld when the time comes.[4]

In Japanese mythology and in the Kojiki, after giving birth to the fire god Hinokagutsuchi, the goddess Izanami dies from wounds from his fire and enters the perpetual night realm called Yomi-no-kuni (the underworld) that the gods retire to and to which Izanagi, her husband, traveled in a failed attempt to reclaim her. He discovers his wife as not-so beautiful anymore, and, following a brief argument afterwards, she promises him she will take a thousand lives every day, signifying her position as the goddess of death.

There are also death gods called shinigami, which are closer to the Western tradition of the Grim Reaper. Shinigami (often plural) are common in modern Japanese arts and fiction and essentially absent from traditional mythology.
