Naruto's ninja way is to never give up and he takes this very seriously. It would of been in character for Naruto to trigger the 9 tails when pain would try and take him away by thinking about the village, the people that died (including Jiraiya) and his dream to become Hokage.

Hinata intervened at the last possible second.

Pain's talk-no-jutsu was powerful enough to suppress any internal triggers for Naruto's release of the fox.

Further, thinking on people like Jiraiya and his nindo would not have prompted -rage-; what was necessary to unleash the Fox, particularly given the ongoing theme of him accessing the fox being submission to anger and rage.

Hinata's nindo is also to never go back on her word - to never 'give up.' Neji still won his match against her. Pain still blasted her into the ground. No amount of "never give up" could change those outcomes.

Naruto required the external intervention.

Hinata's "death" was the way it happened but the main savior here is Minato, no doubt. sorry for the bad english :S

That logic makes Jiraiya the main villain - as he's the one who made possible the whole encounter; from training Nagato and Naruto to giving him access to the seal used on the fox to giving Naruto the hint on how to defeat Pain...

Hinata saved Naruto from losing to pain. Naruto saved the village from Pain. Minato saved Naruto from the fox.

Let's not get the causes and effects turned around, here.

Yes but when Hinata was fighting Neji she didn't have the nine tails inside her, she didn't have any extra power unlike when Naruto was lying on the ground in front of Pain. Pain's "talk-no-jutsu did not have that much of an effect on Naruto.. you think because he saw Pain crush Hinata that it made Naruto escape from Pain's "talk-no-jutsu"? that wouldn't make sense because Naruto had already witnessed the villiage getting crushed, Jiraiya dying and Kakashi dying as well. What difference is Hinata?

So, why was Naruto laying on the ground in front of Pain?

If he was able to simply 'not give up' ... why was he in such a compromised position?

Pain's "talk-no-jutsu did not have that much of an effect on Naruto.. you think because he saw Pain crush Hinata that it made Naruto escape from Pain's "talk-no-jutsu"? that wouldn't make sense because Naruto had already witnessed the villiage getting crushed, Jiraiya dying and Kakashi dying as well. You're really going to make me do this?

He -was- thinking about Jiraiya. He -was- thinking about the village.

But Pain was right. What could he do? He was powerless to bring peace.

(And why, pray tell, would he resort to a hateful fox when the discussion was clearly about how to bring peace?)

And what difference is Hinata?

It was his job to risk his life. It was his job to protect his friends (such as Hinata).

And here he was, unable to do anything. This girl was dying for him.

At that poing - peace didn't matter. Pain - his reasons for doing things didn't matter. All that mattered was that a friend was being killed because he didn't have enough power.

He didn't have an answer to Pain's question... but seeing Hinata 'die' ... was unacceptable:

That's the difference Hinata makes.

In such despair as to finally give himself over to the fox.

Give Hinata due credit. She answered the call. She may not have been the only one who theoretically could have filled the role... but she is the one who answered the call (and, arguably, the only one who could see that there was a calling for that role).

That pic of her lying sideways, half dead (last pic)... she looks exactly like Neji when he died! Like he took the same pose but changed the hair style. I call that creepy foreshadowing! lol

Hinata gave Naruto a reason for releasing His anger and letting Kurama out, in that sense She did save Him or Nagato would have taken Him away for the extraction.

:sy: he could have easily broke out he only used 2 of his Sage Clones & couldn't get the other one because he was occupied With saving ( Dont know there names) the to Toads.
But then guess what Stupid Hinata jumped in.

Yes it does Naruto did it for the village not Hinata.
If Hinata would have never intervened , Then he wouldn't have to resort to going to Kurama for power.
She caused it.
But in the same situation , as Hinata.
Sakura standed her ground & didn't even Get injured.
(Naruto Shippuden: Road to ninja)
& the only reason I count that specific movie is because , It was made by masashi kishimoto his first movie.
She fought menma , which had sharingan , Which is way stronger than byakugan.
She Was a smart ninja (unlike Hinata) & tryed to wake up Naruto while fighting menma.
& who did he think of when he was coming back to his senses , Jiraya,Kakashi,& Minato.

Keep in mind , Menmas Great Spiralling Ring to destroy most of Konoha is similar to Pain's attack on Konoha. His methods of combat also greatly resemble Pain's more than Naruto's, relying on the Nine Masked Beasts in similar fashion to the Paths of Pain.
& also when Naruto went sage mode & Naruto tried to punch menma, which menma just grabbed his fist absorbed his chakra & tossed him.

Naruto's Main problem
Revenge
Naruto Base problems?
Sakura Vs Hinata

can we all just get along :(
I like them both equally
Both possess traits needed to be great heroines.

I agree with you Hinata is a boring person with the most annoying fanbase
I have the same thoughts, most annoying fanbase to be honest, when Naruto can take Neji out with a punch, you can expect Sakura to take out Hinata with a single punch as well

Whoever made up that Hinata was strong is just a silly fanboy. She's not. Neither is Sakura. At least not in a 1v1 scenario. However if Hinata do lands a hit Sakura won't do shit since her chakra would be messed up afterwards. This is just another first hit wins scenario no one can really tell who would win.

This... doesn't make any sense.

He couldn't summon his third shadow clone because he was pinned to the ground by Pain.

There was no "easily getting out of it." Or it would have been done.

Yes it does, because he broke peins (chakra receivers) & he mastered his sage mode when they only had 2 pains left.
He could have used but, what did he say the nine tailed fox messed up his chakra.
What caused the nine tailed fox to erupt?!
