I doubt there are really that many people that keep regular tabs on Japanese voice actors. I'm a manga person, anime is secondary and I only watch it when I'm bored after haven't watched any new episodes for a few weeks or even months. Let alone that I start digging into the private affairs of the voice actors (which I really don't care about). The only thing I ever amused myself with was trying to find the same voice actors in different animes I watched based on their voice alone. In fact most of the time I don't really want to know who is voicing who as that might ruin the way you look at a character. I still find it weird to look at Mako of LoK (cartoon ok, not anime) who is voiced by the actor who played Bud Bundy in Married With Children.
Well, personally, I like to keep tabs on seiyuus. Tbh, apart from animes and mangas, I like to keep a lot on certain things that interests me - like a mangaka's other works, an anime studios/makers' projects, a music band's other albums, the different voicing done by other seiyuu's and stuffs like that...

For seiyuus, it's not like I follow all of them, but mainly voices I have really been a fan about. And sometimes, it can prove handy. Like Steins;Gate is one of my favorite anime in all-time list but initially, what made me watch it the first time, wasn't the hype, storyline ect... but seiyuus. I got into it because Hanazawa Kana was into it (voicing Mayuuri) and she got the cutest voice I've ever heard (big fan of her) and add on to that, there was Miyano Mamoru - who got the best evil laugh and one of the unique voices in seiyuu history.

I don't quite agree with your assessment that it might ruin the way you look at a character. In fact, I think a seiyuus is the one who makes you feel the emotion of a character in anime. So, in a way, knowing a seiyuu better enhances a character as you know that that voice connects with you.

Back to Hirano Aya is, or now was, very popular. Though, not a fan of her, this made pretty much headlines. So, I think this news was far more popular and known than what you think of.

Don't believe they would cancel an anime just because of the voice actor being sexuallly ... hum... how to put it nicely... exposed.
No, FT was cancelled for other reasons mentioned before. That being said, Hirano Aya basically in nearly jobless right now thanks to that, so in a way, Lucy is temporarily mute now. :p

Left for school and this what happens! :D Now I'm happy.
this is old..... am quite surprise that most people in here don't know about this, even Caliburn don't know about this ???
its from 2 years ago, and there is no way that this scandal was the reason for the current hiatus concerning FT anime.....

got it ?
Yea. I understand.
She signed a deal in 212 with Universal Sigma; after she left Space Craft. So, it's not like she's been banned from voicing forever or that her career is over - she just changed contracts. It's up to anime studios saying 'yes' or 'no' to appointing her now. She's still working!!!

On the scandal, I don't even see it as shocking. She had *** with 3 members of her band but there wasn't any video/porn/mms made [the pic is just a sensuous after-*** one]. It wasn't even a rape kind of thing or torture, hell, it even seems to have been consensual *** with all of them and it isn't like she took money from them ect...

Yes, her deeds are a bit slutty and loose, but it's her personal life. I don't get why she should get such treatment frankly. If we were to see all celebrities, I bet so many of them have different one night stands with different people. Right now, the J-society has just use her as sacrificial lamb.

It's the first time - a voice actor is revealed in something like that (though some seiyuus left and turned to different professions). The people just want to hate on her by jumping on the 'Let's hate her because she did a wh*re like thing'. There is a large body of Japanese otaku who actively dislike Hirano Aya right now. That's unfair because realistically, so many people had *** with different persons at some point in their life.

Why can't she live her life the way she wants, just because otakus and fans make a 'saint' like image of her? She has been appointed because of her voice that is archetypal to bubbly heroines like Haruhi, Lucy (FT), Mamori (Eyeshield), Layla (NANA), Misa (Death Note) and more... She became an idol; due to her singing and unfortunately, Japanese otakus like their idols for posing sexy pictures in magazines, singing songs in concerts, keep a fanclub alive but can't appreciate if she has done something a bit more in personal life...

Frankly, the true scandal is not that she slept with 3 guys and post a pic later on. The true scandal is how she has boycotted of her profession. Now, otakus and agencies don't want because seemingly, a person like her will make any anime character sound like a sl*t. That's plain stupid and laughable.

Oh, I'll drop something. Look at some of her past characters. What she did is something that Layla (NANA) did quite a bit in NANA. Misa Amane (Death Note) also did lots of lingeries shoots and allowed Light to keep her as a b*tch. Oh, and I forgot to all die-hard fans of Haruhi, this is something I could actually see Haruhi do - like bored of life and try something "new". I'm flabbergasted by how otakus and agencies want to preserve integrity, honour, chastity of a digital anime characters but are all okay about ruining a persons profession.

I'm not a fan of Hirano Aya but I view of what she went through as harsh and unfair. So, I'd wish her good luck. Hopefully, she'll get a new job other than seiyuus or that agencies could appoint her despite her "reputation." Perhaps, she can be a seiyuu for hentai/ecchi anime characters...Anyhow, I wish her courage and success in her future endeavours :)
Very thoughtful post. I guess I was a little overreacting a bit to this. I just got mad that she actually had *** with 3 of the guys that had worked with her. And as above I said that from an anime called "Uta no Prince-sama,"which is about this female character who goes to a school to be a composer. There was this partner system that you had to be a composer paired up with one idol or the other way around. It mentions that there can't be any special kind of relationship with the idol/composer. I guess it's this Japanese thing. But anyway I would haft to agree with it. So it seems reasonable people people would get mad at the seiyuu.

I admit I have an extreme fangirl syndrome for Noriaki Sugiyama (Sasuke's seiyuu). And very recently I fell for Kakihara Tetsuya (Natsu's seiyuu). He's the most adorable thing in the world.
But anyway besides that while I was reading your post Escorpiius, I was thinking that what if the animators decide to do the same as they do to vocaloids and use that as the voice for Lucy. Lol I doubt that'll happen xD!

I wonder what would have been the reaction if she married one of those 3? Then, all would be "oh sho shweeeet, they fell in love while working and stuffs like that..." But yes, what you mentioned about the rule in contracts of no relationships, is correct in many Japanese bands. That's being said, it's wrong such a hypocritical rule.

Hirano Aya is a pretty dated-subject now and since it was 3 guys, few of the public actually sympathized with her despite her having her career nearly ended. And let's see the who did a similar less "extreme" thing but a far larger repent. And see some of the general reactions : If you read both links fully, you'll understand how stupid this contract "limitation into private lives" is!

On such part I really agree with (and there are many others):

They are allowed to have "one-sided romantic feelings" for a boy but can never progress beyond hinting at their crush -- and must never disabuse their legions of male fans that they might one day stand a chance with their fantasy woman.

On Lucy's seiyuu, well, since the anime is halted, I guess, they'll just find her a replacement. There's no dearth of seiyuus afterall. And my list of fav. seiyuu is pretty lengthy, so it'd take time to list them most. But I'll do it someday if you're interested.

She slept with 3 members of her band except for the bassist.

So in the end it was only the bassist who got fuc*ed.
Hahaha...He probably wasn't a harem lover!

To be honest I dont really care that she slept with all those men, I mean its what she wanted to do, so why are we judging her? Who sets those rules anyway, about who to sleep with and with how many? I mean of course theres self respect, but if she lacks it, its her problem not ours..
So saying that you will stop listening to her music or whatever because of her *** scandal, in my opinion is stupid, since her problems have nothing to do with you.

Anyway it is quite sad that there will be no Fairy Tail anime for now :/

Theres is still anime its just gonna be a different series showing off the best episodes. I think they should make a chibi series like Naruto SD if they wanted to wait until the manga is at a far point.
