Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian says Microsoft to reveal future platform next month.

Microsoft will announce the Xbox 720 in May, according to Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian. The news came from a note to investors today about Electronic Arts, with Sebastian saying this announcement will be a catalyst for shares.

No information regarding the exact date or venue of the rumored announcement was divulged.

A previous report suggested Microsoft would announce the new platform during a one-off media event later this month.

A Microsoft representative told GameSpot, "We do not comment on rumors or speculation. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform, but we don't have anything further to share at this time."

Though Microsoft has not officially spoken about the Xbox 720, speculation about the platform has not been lacking. GameStop CEO recently said the console is a "very hot, compelling device," adding that the "world is going to stand up and take notice" when Microsoft finally shares details about the system.

According to past reports, the Xbox 720 may require Kinect and an Internet connection to function, block used games, and feature Siri-like voice recognition, among other features.

Microsoft has previously warned users about Xbox 720 scam sites.

This isn't a good thing..

That part is clearly untrue. Xbox can't be dumb enough to not see how much they'd get shit on if you couldn't use used games.

I've been a 360 person since it came out, but I'll make the wise decision and go with PS4 since it's going to pee on this new Xbox.

Kinect? Hahahah. Seriously Microsoft are pathetic. Had xbox then switched to PS3, much better IMO.

I'll get PS4. PC will always be king tho

There was a thread about this earlier, I forgot when... But in it, the new Xbox was claimed to have the code name 'Durango'. XD

Edit: Found the contents of the thread~~~~

"In a conversation with Games Industry International, GameStop’s CEO J. Paul Raines spoke about Microsoft’s upcoming successor to the Xbox 360. It hasn’t been announced yet, but something tells us GameStop is fully aware of what the new console will be.

“We’ve been spending a lot of time with Microsoft,” Raines admitted, “but we have to let them take the lead on [the new console], but it will be a very hot, very compelling device. They are doing some really cool stuff, and I’m eager to hear them start their announcements because I think the world is going to stand up and take notice.”

With the Wii U experiencing terrible sales and the PlayStation 4 dominating the next-gen mindshare, many in the industry are eager to see what Microsoft has up its sleeve. Xbox 360 is at relative sales parity with PS3 right now, however, and the Xbox 360 continues to beat PlayStation 3 in North America in particular. It could be that Microsoft is in no rush to halt the Xbox 360 cash cow any time soon, though the company also no doubt understands that the longer it gives Sony a complete next-gen monopoly in the discussion, the worse off it may be.

The new Xbox – codenamed Durango – is purportedly set for reveal later this month."

The Playstation family has always been the go to place for core gamers. Also Nintendo. And PC.

Microsoft, from what I've seen, has been shifting to try and capture the casual market. If the new Xbox goes the same direction as the 360 did, it's going to be a slow, slow death...
