Wouldn't Hashirama know being that he can use genjutsu and has sensory abilities? I think Madara was almost dieing and someone helped him before he died

I think it's more likely Madara used izagani ( the jutsu that makes you lose the eye ) and just played dead cuz he got the DNA he was after and knew he didn't wanna chance fighting the first again cuz he'd lose and die this time cuz the first wasn't playing anymore and would kill him. So he played dead until he could leave with the first thinking he was dead and with the DNA he wanted so bad.

madara himself confirms he was wounded by hashirama . how do you get wounded in ur own genjutsu ?
