How did Madara survive?

I think Madara survived by using Izanagi. Which would explain why he showed Obito his two eyes and he said his other one was gone. Probably from using Izanagi.

OR

Madara implanted Hashirama's DNA and the EMS allowed him to use Izanagi without losing his eyesight because it's eternal (never goes out).

Any thoughts?

He could of just laid there and pretended he was dead? He stated that he took Hashirama's DNA.

He did not use Izanagi, if so he wouldn't say he'd been defeated, clearly he got hasiramas cells liek he said during the Obito reveal, and hooked himself up to that statue

But he didn't unlock the Rinnegan until he almost died which was when he was hella old.
