Yes I agree, I thought it was gonna completely subdue the 9 Tails and possibly fatally wound Madara, but it was nothing but a colossal piece of wood. xd

In the Madava vs the 5 Kage, Madara said that with his Sharingan is the only way to see trough the wood clone..

and at the end he didn't have his Sharingan on.. cause it was a Zetzu clone, or do you forget that Madara lives after that fight and grows old and finds Obito so...

it was a switcheroo like the Kisame vs Bee

.. so no wonder that a Zetsu clone couldn't use a Sharinga and defeat Hashirama.. that wasn't the point

I personally never thought there was a huge gap in power, though I did believe and still believe hashi has the upper hand in terms of power.

This chapter for me confirms a few things

-hashi and madara were indeed close interms of power
-the thousand hands technique is strong coz it was able to subdue susanoo but not the unbeatable ,overwhelming jutsu[based on size]

The ability that proved to be disicive was the fact that hashirama was able to use wood clone [ninjutsu] even after the tiring fight whereas madara was unable to use sharingan , only endsup bringing back to the fact that the senju posses superior physical stamina , strength , and lifeforce

but the fact that madara survived when hashi himself believed that he was dead really was the twist of this week's manga
