The bottom panels can be perceived as itachi played as a hokage outside a village. the 3rd hokage who trained under the previous ones states they "entrusted everything to a 7 year old shinobi". I would gather a shinobi of sarutobi's age and overall experience would not have said that had it not been true. for itachi to have that kind of reasoning it meant he did what was best for the people ( could have been a leader). his elders trusted him with the lives of everyone in the village (if this includes everything). Yet he humbly considered it "a mission" (simply duty) as stated below

wasup base! what do my fellow narutards think? this is a 420 thought with a solid cosign :)

his "reasoning" was just like a hokage, i doubt he was even at hokage level, and at his age it would have been super stressful

Nope...get it straight. Hokage hailed Itachi's decision making ability which starting forming at the age of 7 but it wasn't until he was 13 that 'everything was entrusted to him' (which was his age when he committed the massacre). Notice...that statement was inserted in the panel with the much older Itachi looking mean as ever.

Plus we still don't know how old Sarutobi was when tobirama entrusted the entireeeee village to him as Sandaime so the Itachi as the youngest Hokage ever ish holds little water bruv

Itachi might have the abilities and intellect on par with that of a hokage but he was never a leader. He didn't care about the lives of the people.Just like danzo he is so obsessed with the safety of the village,he doesn't really care in what way he achieves it.That is a terrible example of a hokage who is supposed to be the role model to all the ninja in the village.

Regardless....when Sandaime said he entrusted everything....he meant the entire 'plan and execution of the massacre'. Itachi took on a lot of burden outside the village....sure....but the responsibilities of a Hokage far exceeds just monitoring the activities of enemies and reporting back as a spy.
