So I've questioned the reasons of life for quite some time now. Not the 'why are we here' aspect, but the why do we persist. As in, what do we want out of our existence? What do we strive for? What is the endgame that we hunt for? Some people want the riches of the world, some want to be accepted, some want power, and some may just want to be forgiven. The list of reasons could go on forever.
To quote one of my favorite films: "People ask the question... what's a RocknRolla? And I tell 'em - it's not about drums, drugs, and hospital drips, oh no. There's more there than that, my friend. We all like a bit of the good life - some the money, some the drugs, others the *** game, the glamour, or the fame. But a RocknRolla, oh, he's different. Why? Because a real RocknRolla wants the ****ing lot."

Now, you may want none of these things, and that's just fine. I myself wouldn't mind too much if I didn't have them. I really don't know what I'd like. But I'm still fairly young I guess, so I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. I would like to publish one of my works, but I wouldn't it wouldn't be that big of a deal if I didn't.

But the question is, what is your reason, what is the final outcome or goal you'd like to achieve?

I'll add a poll if suggested, an if enough options are stated.

That is a question I could never answer.

It's funny (And it sounds eerily depressing), that I just live for tomorrow, I'm sixteen and I don't know where I truly want to finish, I just take life as it comes to me.

I don't know, I just feel like we're all so small, that all that we accomplish in our lives is meaningless and as such, I don't look to the far future so much.

I just want to be happy in the end. Find true love and live a stable life. I don't plan my life out detail for detail so that's really all I can say.

At the end of the day, my goal is to be happy. And that's all there is to it.

It seems extremely simple, but the simplicity is what makes it beautiful. It's what makes it achievable. And happiness is something that can be worn just as much as clothing. When you're happy, people see it. They see the smile on your face and the twinkle in your eye. You end up being a beacon of light for others. You end up being the reminder that, yes, there is still happiness and goodness in this world.

Humans ponder the most useless things and ignore the most important things.

Why you exist does not matter because you DO.

How you exist is more important yet you pay no heed to it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say plan your life out. I'm just wondering if there is a major goal that you're after in life. ^.^

Well said, but in my eyes this is a question worth pondering just like those.

"Life presents itself first and foremost as a task: the task of maintaining itself...if this task is accomplished, then what has been gained is a burden, and then there appears a second task: that of doing something with it so as to ward off boredom, which hovers over every secure life like a bird of prey. Thus, the first task is to gain something, and the second to become unconscious of what has been gained, which is otherwise a burden." — Schopenhauer

The quote above is the most profound and pellucid elucidation/elaboration regarding the purpose of our existence, and I completely agree with Schopenhauer, namely, that existence is inevitably insatiable and is therefore fundamentally problematic. We have no real purpose.

I dream of success and happiness, on my way to success and happiness, I plan on respecting and being kind to everyone who I feel is willing to do the same for me. I'm also just gonna do whatever I want because if I don't, then I feel as if I'm denying my own freedom. But at the end of my life, I want to feel like I have accomplished both of my true goals. Because I practically live for these, success and happiness have also become my ambition. They are the driving force of nearly all my actions. I'm pretty young myself but I know if all my actions go to what I want most in life and I keep striving for it, I'll get what I want out of life. At least that's what I hope :D

It's nothing very special. Why don't you just ask god and learn about this world of his that he created? Everything is on display right infront of us and we are always trying to find the hidden piece of gold under a rock. Learn about nature if you want to know about everything.

but the why do we persist.
Because we keep reproducing and haven't been destroyed

As in, what do we want out of our existence?
Whatever you want so long as you are not violating another beings rights

What do we strive for?
Individual based: Some for love, some for money, some for knowledge, some just enjoy life, some enjoy helping others.

Humanity based: Improve the lively hood of the human race and respect each others rights more (respecting rights stops violence and crime).

????? Based: Humanity hasn't advanced this far yet, do not concern yourself yet.

What is the endgame that we hunt for?
Endgame? What endgame? Do you mean destructive forces began to triumph over creative forces? Endgame = destruction wins.

I'm happy to see that everyone got the Hitchhiker's Guide reference, but I'd appreciate real answers..
Haha, I gave you a real answer, didn't I?
When I was in middle school, I was asked to write a speech for my graduation ceremony. There was this sycamore tree on campus that I really liked, so, unlike the other two people who were asked to write speeches, I wrote mine about that tree ^.^ I literally said "I have had the privilege of watching the sycamore tree outside of the play ground grow, from the time that I was in preschool up until this very day. And in a way, I've grown with that tree. A tree needs soil, water, and sunlight to grow properly. Similarly, I would not have made it this far with out my family, my friends, and God." (You'll have to understand, I went to Catholic School)

Anyways, that's my philosophy on life. We are not independent creatures. We need others to grow and to develop properly.
