Yeah but it was Kishimoto's idea to make kakashi say that. So the author obviously thought about it and therefore it is a fact.

Dont you think that was just option Kishi left for himself but didnt use it in the end? Even then, it wasnt a fact, only a rumor. It would mean, that Hyuugas have even closer relations to the Sage than Uchihas, yet, there was no mention about it in the manga. Even during recent chapters, when Hyuugas had the spotlight.
