[Theory] Tobirama died before Hashi?

This could be a dumb theory but I'm beginning to wonder if Madara killed Tobirama before Hashi died. I thin Hashi had already stepped down from being Hokage to try and locate Madara and convince him to return to the village. Tobirama had taken over as Hokage and Madara got pissed at that so he ambushed Tobirama then killed him. That is what causes the final battle between Hashi and Madara

I agree with the Hashirama stepping down... I can imagine it being a case of what Naruto says. "How can I be Hokage when I can't save even one friend".

But Tobirama was killed during a war.

No, that wouldn't have been possible. Hashirama was good and dead by the time that Tobirama had used himself as a decoy to space Team Tobirama. It was stated that he had been Hokage for a while by then. There's no reason to assume or speculate to anything else being possible. The timeline works as it is, and it is VERY unlikely for it to change. You may have realized, fans do not like retcons. It gets very confusing. Such as the retcon involving how the MS is attained, etc. It's a sloppy way to write, ans Kishi has done enough of that.

as far as i know tobirama says there are 20 shinobi were following them but we never find out if it was actually them that killed him although we can assume with 100% certainty that it was them who killed tobirama so possible that madara killed him but i have to agree with IKSOKRIPS if he did it was after hashi died

It was already stated that Tobirama died from the Kinkaku-Ginkaku squad. Or they put him in the brink of death.

Look at it this way. Hashirama wanted Madara to at least become the second Hokage and that would have been within Hashi's lifetime.

I suspect Hashirama stepped down after his last fight with Madara. Like I said "How can I become Hokage if I can't even save one friend".
