The discussion is about what you all think made you steer unto this path, i.e. why did you come to be interested in Naruto, and other series(if that's the case) in the first place?

I realize we're not all equally immersed into this world of anime and manga, but we all have our own kind of immersion, so your point of view is what I'm interested in, your story.
You may also discuss it in general, share your thoughts as to why you think it happens to so many.
I want to hear what you all think, and if you chose to use a psychological model to explain it, or by your own observations, whichever way is fine as long as it comes from you.
Note: I want a clean discussion, no flamming/trolling or whatnot; that's not why I came to NB to begin with, nor do I hope any of you did. I came here to know you all and get some friends, which I have, but I can always get more, eh? ;D

My reasons(I think): As for me, I believe the path towards neerdom(I'm saying this in a 'positive' tone) for me was, looking back at how my circumstances looked like when I was a kid, pretty damn unlikely.
I was one of those normal boys whom listened to my parents and tried keeping them proud in that conformist-type way; going to school, being social IRL, good grades, being a good boy(not like Tobi, he's mean) and doing/liking whatever others did with nothing being really my own, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, I'm so thankful every time I think back on it, that Swedish television decided to air Sailor moon and pokémon, moreover, that when they aired pokémon, they decided not to do it in the episode order all the time, but air them rather randomly. It lead me to searching for it elsewhere, but also to keep an eye out for anything like it, leading to me finding out about the shonen jump(Swedish ver.), and in turn about Naruto and some other series!

However, there's also another reason as to why I became so attached to manga and anime, and as I see it; it's disappointment and repulsion(as in unwillingness) to adjust myself to others like a puppet.
The daily hypocrisy you can see in everyday life, I wanted away from it, to be different than that, and so manga and anime became my saviours, though I must admitt I haven't been entirely rational in going about it; I've neglected a lot and became dull in my own way. I'm seeing anime and manga using much the same the norms that which I wanted away from uses; comparison where it's totally unnecessary; arrogance in supposed superiority and mocking others for not having/being it. All that stupidity I so sought to detach myself from, I brought onto this stage, unforgivable to me, but also unknowingly so(sorry to all whom might've experienced it).
These are much big a part of what I think brings others to this point as well, which is why I can't accept us being mean towards each other here on NB, not when there's so much of it out there already.

DBZ captivated me as a young 4 year old boy. Naruto picked up where DBZ left off in 2005.

Hehe~ Agreed! Forgot to mention it really, but I've got the whole series up to DBZ in pocket manga myself! :D

I wouldn't have even known of animes existence or I wouldn't of cared otherwise, so yeah.

How was the outside world problematic for you?
Also, are you glad you ended up here?
Agreed ^ The epicness of the anime itself pulls you to it
Same goes for the manga I would say, at least for me; I couldn't pull myself away from that once I started!

Yep yep and Bleach and other mangas......Pervy ones ^.^

Ah, well, it's a big part of the manga/anime culture we're unlikely not to have sumbled upon, but there's more to it than boobs and butts, wouldn't you agree?
Don't you get really excited when something big is about to happen?
Me, I cried at the end of part 1 of Naruto(manga and that arc in the anime), the parting of Naruto and Sasuke was really painful.

Indeed there needs to be some kind of introduction, but that attraction to DB, must have been cause by something, no? Or rahter, what was it about DB that captivated you?

Oh well, there're many reasons, but do you really only watch/read to study the art aspect of it, or do you actually pay attention to the story? XD

The Art First..how they drawn..Then the Plot comes next...I'm picky.

Then, how does your interest in the art of manga/anime manifest itself? Would you like to draw/animate manga/anime pics/vids? Or is it only to adapt it into art which isn't much manga/anime related? Something else?
I totally did too. :T_T:

Did what? 8D

When I was little I watched shows like Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z and Pokemon, without realizing they were anime. I do remembering enjoying watching them though LOL

Anyway, when I was around fifteen, sixteen years old, a company in my country decided to translate a few popular manga series (Shaman King and Yu-Gi-Oh were their first experiment, followed by Naruto shortly afterwards) and my mum saw the volumes in the store and bought them because she thought I would find them interesting.

Which I did.

I got more and more interested in manga and bought more and more different series. I eventually had to switch over to English manga, not only because I like the English versions more, but also because 1) that company stopped translating and so I have to complete those series in English, 2) the English version was often further along in the serie and 3) there are a whole lot more series translated into English than into Dutch (and I refuse to read in German and French)

So yeah, from there my collection grew and is still growing ...
