Is the Reaper in the reaper death seal real or just part of the jutsu

I been looking at some of the episodes with him in it and he seems to be conscious and do what he wants so is the jutsu just to call him or is that reaper just for decoration

I think it's the Sage's spiritual residue.

Shinigamis are death gods.So I think it's real.Oro managed to "summon" it without using it for sealing reasons,so it exists beyond the limits of the jutsu.

I was thinking this same thing. I don't think the Shinigami is strictly tied to the jutsu

i think its really him cause he show interest in what people who summon him are doing and they say the souls remain in his stomach for eternity meaning hes got something to do with it
