Kishi should have used lee instead of gai

the whole story is about surpassing the previous generation, so why does gai end up doing everything when lee could have been developed instead? I would have preferred that.

EDIT: If you think about it kishi could have had shikaku do everything instead of shikamaru but it's way cooler to see the growth of shikamaru. but for some reason this never happened with lee/gai

no, I just mean instead of using gai to defeat kisame and stuff, he could have plot power-up'd lee through training and had him do it. It's cooler to see lee progress into a powerful ninja then to see gai, an already strong ninja, do all the fighting. Because we're more invested in lee's character if that makes sense. it also fits the plot quite well.

It definitely could have in this case though. And kishi easily could have written something in about Gai getting near defeated by Akatuski and having Lee go in his place, or something.

Although I'm not kishi and there could be better ways of doing it, I just don't understand why Part 1 focus was Lee and then Part 2 focus would shift to Gai so much, when Lee was still very much an option.

Don't trust the databook that much , by the databook Lee can't beat sakura.

Still, probably there will be another time skip to show us everyone's progress and probably lee would have surpased gai by then.

This is true. Lee is being neglected hard, I would like to see how lee has improved/what new skills he's developed. So far in this war we've seen naruto, sasuke, sakura, gaara, shikamaru, choji, ino and a few others show their new skills. Lee hasn't got any real shine since kimimaru & I'm sure he has many new skills like the others have shown. Kisame would have murdered him though so I'm glad guy fought him instead lol

I doubt that seeing how his character is obviously based off the great bruce lee himself. His traits, being one of the best in taijutsu, how he doesn't use ninjutsu.. come on. Kishi def has something big planned for lee

The manga isn't over yet - there is still a lot of time left before the completion of the series. In regards to your statement, we have yet to see Rock Lee and his true power yet but we have seen the extent that Maito Guy could be placed in. I presume that slowly but surely, Rock Lee will show the ability to match Guy which he arguably already has, and then get his own unique power-ups and such therefore rendering him a more powerful, versatile and memorable shinobi than his master. That is what I believe will happen and you must be patient and not jump to conclusion such as this before the completion of the series.
