This should be common knowledge, but I see some take that Databook scan way too seriously. What does the blade do? It seals one in an eternal genjutsu. Not necessarily, the eternal genjutsu could just be a factor for souls being sealed.. but if the sword itself is imbued with fuinjutsu, I don't see why it can't seal objects...

We've seen from the beginning of the manga, ninja use fuinjutsu to seal weapons , kunai etc...
You should take note that when Itachi pierces someone with the Totsuka Sword.. their ENTIRE body is absorbed..... The opposite of the Shiki Fujin Jutsu in which just the soul is pulled out... leaving the body dead.... Totsuka sword absorbs the entire body, skin, blood, eyes, everything.. this alone shows that it can seal objects and things without a soul
