Question related to life

I've never thought about this but I was in class and was moved to the front and when I was sitting there I overheard two guys arguing and it was about the theory of evolution. And I don't care about that but something the guy said made me curious. He said, "if the theory of evolution is true, why don't we continue to evolve or why don't other animals evolve?"

And I've seen so many threads regarding religion and posts about the big-bang ETC. So this question is only for those who believe in the theory of evolution.

Simple. The current form of humans have adapted, to our current lifestyles. There are not a lot of humans that still live in radically different conditions, that they need to evolve even more. Besides, it hasn't been that long, and any sign of "evolving" most likely won't happen in our lifetimes.

the theory of evolution is just that, a theory. We have no definative way to prove that evolution is correct, and the carbon dateing system, has been shown that it could be flawed.

until we truly witness evolution ourselves, or are capable of timetraveling and witnessing it, we have no way to prove it.

But personally, i think the people who go after the big bang, and talk about all its history, and exact dates and stuff, are just being arrogant. The evolution theory is possible, and isnt over the top, but to say all this stuff about how the universe existed, based off measurements of light and radiation, is just a bit arrogant and crazy

Am I a non believer in evolution? no. I simply dont like how science is being taught as so absolute, like we truly know it all. Just like a blind man misses so much input in his life, we may be missing a key sense that will allow us to realize alot is not as we think it is.

1 Evolution is happening, we simply just arent looking for it properly.

2 Evolution happens so slowly, that we dont notice its effect.

3 Evolution doesnt happen at all.

If you do not have a basic understanding of evolution it would be quite difficult to sum it up.
If your truly curious i would advise you to look it up.
And from what you told me the guy proposing the question that got you wondering knew nothing of the topic he was discussing.
He asked why he saw no change which summarizes that he himself has never lifted a text book or even googled evolution which makes me wonder why he even bothered talking about in that manner in the first place lol

Anyway its worth knowing especially in this day and age.More knowledge is never a bad thing.

As said before the answer to that question is ridiculously simple as it's inherent to the theory of evolution: evolution mostly happens gradually at a pace that makes it practically impossible for a human to see any kind of drastic changes in his lifetime. No doubt there have been evolutions for humans, however those are not of the caliber that you would consider them very important or very visible.

Nonetheless there have been examples in the animal kingdom, even in the lifespan of a human. Recently I read an article about certain swallows having adapted the shape of their wings, they became shorter. Why? So that they could dodge cars more easily. The most famous examples are those of moths (I think it were moths). Certain species of moths changed the colors of their wings, getting more darker colors so that they would be camouflaged more easily in urban territories than with the original, lighter colors for natural habitats.

that is one tuff question ....evolution is a theory it's not 100 percent accurate.... although i do believe in some type of evolution it's just hard for me to grasp that i came from a ape yet apes still run around, and that those apes came from small rodents that still run around, and that those small rodents came from sea creatures that still swim around.....i think there's something missing there.

it's easier for me to grasp that a huge star exploded billions of years ago spilling out all it's contents...(carbon, helium, hydrogen)
forming light elements to heavy elements ....a cloud of stardust transforming and giving birth to all the matter you see around you. when i look up at the stars at night i don't think i'm minuscule in the solar system , i am just as big the solar system .... whatever made the universe also made me.

think about this ....is there any need for us to evolve?? at this point in time?? survival of the fittest is one form of adaptation and evolution right....and that occurs when the environment changes..have you ever heard of transhumanism ??? you should research that.

i am a christian who beleives in evolution...although i do not beleive that we were once monkeys....and we have evolved alot through recorded history....evolving does not always have to show physical traits....now this is how we have been evolving (in my opinion) over the last thousand years or more.... our minds grow stronger while our bodies become weaker....because as we make new technologies our bodies adapt to living in that easy going life style....and since our minds are evolving it is alot easier for human beings in every new generation to learn anythng than it does for most of its predocessor generations...like back in the 16th centry most did not know how to read and it was almost an impossible feeling task to even learn how...yet now days we soak that shit up like water....does that make any sense?
