Not just related to this sad happening, but:
The fact is, and has been shown repeatedly is that as time goes on, the newer generations are, err... less mature than the previous. However, I would say this is largely due to the previous generation and society that is raising them incorrectly. It's like growing grass on hard-packed dirt vs fertilized soft ground. It can still happen, but many a child is ruined because of how they're brought up, or lack-thereof.

That is a factor, but really its more of media killing the younger generations

Family are the building blocks for society. Also, it's the previous generation that has created society. And sadly, it's all corrupting the majority of today's youth...
