How did this Itachi and Minato thing start anyway?

I've haven't been paying much attention to this board, but when I do it's always Minato this, and Itachi that. I want to know the origin behind this little debacle. Please fill me in people of NB.

Maybe the popularity of both characters went up so high that they ended up clashing each other.I only joined recently so i wouldn't know the origin of this stupid fight.

They both are parallels: both are young geniuses, at a young age defeat jonnin level ninja, passed a gift down to a younger and most important relative, the gift was also a curse until it was mastered, died in the process of gift giving, dying at roughly the same age.etc.

I really think that its because its hard to determine if itachi > minato or minato > itachi, in a lot of lists they are right above or below one another.

I have no idea myself and I see nothing special about Minato so I'm shocked at his massive fanbase to be honest, but then again I do love dark characters so maybe I'm biased. lol

Don't get me wrong, I like Minato but I would have liked to have seen more of him to get a better idea, but this manga is called "Naruto" for a reason.

Ironically it started with Itachi fans trying to defend him against his treatment of Sasuke. They needed to highlight the sacrifices Itachi made for Konoha and who is the first guy to compare with in such a case- the hokage who died defending it along with his wife and sealing kurama in his son.

And off course versus thread makers who like to argue even about the shinobies they do nothing about in the first place.

Not really that complicated is it?
