Hiruzen Sarutobi & Minato Namikaze
Introduction:
Before I begin this is neither a versus thread or a bashing thread - this is a analysis and comparison thread. Also I'm not saying Hiruzen could beat Minato in a fight or vice versa: what I'm saying is that if both fought the same ninja Hiruzen would defeat the shinobi more efficiently and quickly.
Stats:
Old Hiruzen had a perfect 5 in all categories in the first and second databooks with a respectable 4 in strength, stamina and speed but it is safe to assume that this is due to poor health and age. A young and healthy Hiruzen in his prime would probably have perfect stats. We do not know Minatos stats but we could safely say he would get a perfect score in ninjutsu, taijutsu, speed, stamina, hand seals and intelligence and relitively high stats in the other categories. So to be fair let's assume that the result of this is a tie.
Praise and Hype:
Minato and Hiruzen are both highly praised ninja who many envied to be like and to surpass. They were both Hokage at some point in there life so by default, they're both Kage Level ninja - again its safe to assume they're both Kage+ Level and highly reputable.
Let's begin with Minato - he was heavily praised by his mentor, Jiraiya who said he was one of the most gifted ninja ever who's potential would probably never appear again. He went as far to say that he was possibly the Child of the Prophecy. The Fourth Raikage thought that Minato was unbeatable and unsurpassable. Anko stated that she wished the Minato could be alive so that he could face Orochimaru and remove the Snakes threat. Hiruzen himself stated, there was nobody better to face his former pupil. Tobi, who is easily top 5 material thought he should personally face Minato during the Kyuubi Incident. Minato was noted to have created the legendary Rasengan and FTG as well as mastering a countless number of powerful fuinjutsu.
On the other side of the coin, Hiruzen. The Hokage was claimed to be one of the strongest ninja of all time and has been stated to be the strongest Kage of his time. He was given the name that only two others possess; the God of Shinobi. Although controversial, Hiruzen in his prime was stated to be the strongest Hokage, Konoha ever had. Emna and Orochimaru both said during the famous battle that Hiruzen was a miserable shadow of what he used to be even though he was fighting formidably against Orochimaru and the two former Hokage. He was known to have huge chakra reserves - even in his old age, was noted to create a dense atmosphere around the area he fought his pupil. Another famous name he was given was the Professor, the master of all forms of the ninja and he did - mastering all none KKG jutsu of Konoha and possibly more clocking in at 1000+ mastered jutsu.
I think it the victory by hype goes to Hiruzen - Minato was indeed well praised and powerful, even earning some praise from Hiruzen himself but from all the hype Hiruzen got, it's safe to assume Hiruzen trumps Minato.
Abilities:
The two Hokage have shown to both be formidable shinobi, both deserving of a persons top ninja list but who has better legitimate abilities and jutsu.
Minato has an impressive line up of techniques. First, Minato was formidable in his use of a kunai, more specifically a FTG kunai. He developed an awe inspiring S/T jutsu named Flying Thunder God (FTG). He also developed Rasengan as well which is essentially a mini, human version of the Tailed Beast Bomb and was later used by Naruto his son, and Jiraiya his mentor and others as well. Minato mastered many Uzumaki based fuinjutsu courtesy of Kushina; Eight Triagrams, Four Symbol, and Dead Consuming Seal(s) just to name a few. He can also summon toads and is great in placing hand seals.
Hiruzen also has an impressive line up, being able to use DDS and various Konoha tech with ease like the average Shadow Clone Jutsu. He uses Earth, Water and Fire release jutsu and mastered many jutsu in this category. Hiruzen uses the average shuriken but has used the adrenhilin stick on a number of occasion. He can also summon Emna who is arguably the best summoning in the Naruto Universe. However the more impressive feat is he mastered all non KKG jutsu in Konoha - repeat ALL. This means he mastered Rasengan and FTG as they have both not been stated to be KKG. Also this includes other techs such as Chidori.
Both are versatile on taijutsu and probably genjustu. From this analysis again Hiruzen trumps Minato.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, so far from what we've seen Hiruzen is a more versatile and stronger ninja than Minato. I do not want this to be a flame war so keep it clean and tell me what you think
